Essential improvements
Fix invalid opcode error (divide overflow) on fast CPUs
- Open the
LOTUS.DAT in a hex editor.
- Search for the hex sequence
FB F7 F1 and change it to FB 90 90.
- Save the changes.
Explanation: The command F7 F1 is a div cx instruction, which on fast CPUs might be zero and trigger a divide error. Replacing it with a pair of nop instructions (90 90) avoids the error without affecting gameplay, since that value was apparently never used in-game. As there are several instances of the divide instruction in the file, including the preceding FB in the search guarantees that the correct location is modified.[1]
