Issues fixed

Application Error on Start

If installed to a Steam library not on the same drive as the Steam client an application error will popup with "Failed to find Steam".
Copy steam.dll to the <steam-library-path>\steamapps\common\Just Cause
Alternate

Create a symbolic link (this will allow for steam.dll being updated by the Steam client.)

  1. Open an administrative command prompt window
  2. Within the administrator command prompt window type: mklink "<steam-library-path>\steamapps\common\Just Cause\steam.dll" "<steam-library-path>\steam.dll"

(Substitute <steam-library-path> to the full pathname to your Steam library.)

Crash if Windows key is pressed

This game has been known to crash or become unresponsive on a press of the Windows key.
[citation needed]

Use the /windowed command line argument.

Shadow bug with newer video cards

A bug with newer Nvidia drivers where a shadow endlessly follows you around the game world.
Use Just Cause Widescreen fix[3]
Use shadow fix[4]
  1. Download Just Cause Shadow Fix. Alternate download
  2. Put JustCause.exe in the installation folder.

Movement glitch

When moving, the graphics seem smooth, but Rico is alternating between a "fast" and a "slow" speed. This is likely caused by an unstable frame rate while above 60 FPS.
Frame rate cap[citation needed]

Notes

  1. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/6880/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (6880) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
