Jane's F-15 is a singleplayer and multiplayer first-person and third-person action and vehicle combat game in the Jane's Combat Simulations series.

The game has severe compatibility issues ranging from unresponsive menus and rendering problems. See the Modern Windows patching section to properly run the game on modern systems. Also, a joystick is required for proper gameplay in Expert mode.

Essential improvements

Patches

The 1.17f patch is the latest official patch for the game, with the exception of the Spanish release, and is available from Patches-Scrolls and GameFront. It fixes many of the crashing issues that earlier versions had, increases multiplayer stability, enhances the avionics/flight model, adds Direct3D support, along with many other things.

Modern Windows patching

The menus for F-15 do not work correctly on Windows 7 and newer, requiring a DirectDraw wrapper like ddwrapper to fix. The simulation will work correctly if nGlide is used to emulate the 3dfx renderer. Certain movie files that are played in the menus can cause crashes.

Patching and installing wrappers[citation needed]

Install the game using the installer included on the CD. Download the 1.17f patch and extract to <path-to-game>. Overwrite any files if asked to. Download and install nGlide. Download ddwrapper and extract aqrit.cfg and ddraw.dll to <path-to-game>. Open aqrit.cfg with a text editor and change ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 0 to ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1 Delete all the *.UV2 files in <path-to-game>\Movies, leaving the following: IR.WVE IR_L.WVE IR_T.WVE IR_W.WVE JANES.WVE OP.WVE SH.WVE ST.WVE ST_L.WVE ST_T.WVE ST_W.WVE 9. Start up F-15 and go to the Options menu. Make sure 3dfx Glide (Voodoo) is highlighted in Video Driver. F-15 will now play correctly.

Disable videos in Options
Go to Options, Miscellaneous. Uncheck Jane's Video, F-15 Video, and Trailer Video/Credits. Click OK and Accept to apply the changes.

Opening f15keys.ini with a text editor and manually adding FORMATION_LIGHTS, COCKPIT_LIGHTS, DISPLAY_FPS and MEET_SMUT to bindings will enable the ability to toggle the various lights on the craft, toggle the FPS display and enable the flying pigs cheat. These are not normally assignable through the game's menu.

Enable the female wingman voice[citation needed]

Copy regit.exe from the F-15 CD to <path-to-game> and run the program from there (if it does not appear quickly, run it in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME.) Click on "ADD". In the value field type women (all lower case) In the data field type 1. Click on OK. Close the program. Notes: Affects only every 8th team slot. This can also be accomplished by manually adding it as a new string value directly to the Windows registry in the location cited above.
