Essential improvements

Patches

V1.17f and V1.12f

This patch will not work for the Spanish version of the game.

The 1.17f patch is the latest official patch for the game. It fixes many of the crashing issues that earlier versions had, increases multiplayer stability, enhances the avionics\flight model, adds Direct3D support, along with many other things.

Modern Windows Patching

The menus for F-15 do not work correctly on Windows 7 and requires a DirectDraw wrapper to fix. ddwrapper is the only DirectDraw wrapper that works with F-15 currently. The simulation will work correctly if nGlide is used to emulate the 3dfx renderer. Certain movie files that are played in the menus can cause crashes.
Patching and Installing Wrappers[citation needed]
  1. Install Jane's F-15 using the installer included on the CD.
  2. Download the 1.17f patch.
  3. Extract the patch to where you installed F-15. Overwrite any files if asked to.
  4. Download and install nGlide.
  5. Download ddwrapper and open the .zip.
  6. Copy aqrit.cfg and ddraw.dll to where F-15 is installed.
  7. Open aqrit.cfg in the F-15 directory and change ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 0 to ForceDirectDrawEmulation = 1
  8. Delete all the *.UV2 files in Movies from your F-15 directory leaving the following:
IR.WVE
IR_L.WVE
IR_T.WVE
IR_W.WVE
JANES.WVE
OP.WVE
SH.WVE
ST.WVE
ST_L.WVE
ST_T.WVE
ST_W.WVE

9. Start up F-15 and go to the Options menu. Make sure 3dfx Glide (Voodoo) is highlighted in Video Driver. F-15 will now play correctly.

Skip intro videos

Disable videos in Options[1]
  1. Go to Options, Miscellaneous.
  2. Uncheck Jane's Video, F-15 Video, and Trailer Video/Credits.
  3. Click OK and Accept to apply the changes.

Opening f15keys.ini with a text editor and manually adding FORMATION_LIGHTS, COCKPIT_LIGHTS, DISPLAY_FPS and MEET_SMUT to bindings will give you the ability to toggle the various lights on the craft, toggle the FPS display and enable the flying pigs cheat. These are not normally assignable through the game's menu.

Enable the female wingman voice[citation needed]
  1. Copy regit.exe from F-15 CD to install directory. Run the program. (If it doesn't appear quickly, you may need to set Windows to run it in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME.)
  2. Click on "ADD".
  3. In the value field type women (all lower case)
  4. In the data field type 1.
  5. Click on OK. Close regit.exe.
affects only every 8th team slot.

Note: Instead of using regit.exe this can also be accomplished by manually adding it as a new string value directly to the Windows registry in the location cited above.
