Key points
- Originally titled The War Z, rebranded to Infestation: Survivor Stories due to "confusion and trademark issues".[1][2] Classic was later added to the title in 2016.[3]
- On launch the game was criticized for misleading advertising, suspicious microtransactions, and forum censorship,[4][5] eventually resulting in its temporary removal from the Steam storefront[6] before being reinstated at around March, 2013.[7]
- Servers were shut down on December 15, 2016.[8]

Game freezes when entering server
Game freezes when entering a server, potentially kicking you before you can move[citation needed]

- Poor memory optimization in the engine is likely the cause of this problem. The client can reach nearly 2 GB of RAM usage despite its unremarkable graphical fidelity.[11]
- Following this fix in windowed mode is recommended (in-case the client hangs or crashes during testing).
- From the in-game menu, select Options and navigate to the display settings.
- Using a custom graphics preset, modify every settings on the right to off or low.
- Apply the changes. Quit the game client and start it again.
- Use the quick-join feature to see if the problem is solved. If it is, proceed to step 5, else seek another solution.
- Ignore anti-aliasing and V-sync. Choose one graphics option and modify it to medium or high.
- Use the quick-join feature again.
- If the client freezes or crashes, modify that graphics option back to low.
- Repeat steps 5-7 until you find a configuration that seems aesthetically pleasing, but resolves the initial problem.
- If you experience screen tearing enable Vsync.
