ddraw.dll is recommended to make the game playable on Windows 8 and 10.

Installing on 64-bit versions of Windows

The original disc release uses a 16-bit installer.
  1. Insert the CD
  2. Download Winevdm.
  3. Extract it Somewhere
  4. Click on otvdmw.exe then look for SETUP.EXE
  5. You may get a "SEGV" error and if that's the case just click on continue
  6. Follow the Prompts

Playing the game on Windows 8 and 10

  1. Download ddraw.
  2. Extract it somewhere
  3. Copy ddraw.dll to your installation folder (where you installed the game at)
  4. Right click on HEROES2W.exe and go to properties
  5. On Compatibility Mode Select Windows 98 / Windows ME
  6. Click on Reduced colour mode and set it to "16-Bit (65536) Colour"
  7. Also Click on "Run this Program as an Administrator
  8. Click Apply and OK
  9. Run the game
