Play without the CD

The largest install size can be played without the CD, but when a video is to be played the game will show a prompt for inserting the disc or skipping that video.
Make necessary changes[1]
  1. Install the game with the largest install size (Full Install for DOS, Excessive Install for Windows).
  2. Copy the VIDEO folder on the CD into the installation folder.
  3. Go to the configuration file location.
  4. Open FTA2.INI.
  5. Change the VideoPath= line to match the VIDEO folder location in the installation folder.

Skip intro videos

Make necessary changes[1]
  1. Set the game up to Play videos without the CD.
  2. Apply the intro skip replacement files.

Windowed

Windowed mode colors in the Windows version are corrupted on modern versions of Windows.
Make necessary changes[1]
  1. Go to the configuration file location.
  2. Edit FTA2.INI.
  3. Change Windowed=0 to Windowed=1
  4. Go to the installation folder.
  5. Right click FTA2.EXE and choose Properties.
  6. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  7. Enable 256 color mode.

Issues fixed

Installing on modern versions of Windows

Attempting to install the Windows version on modern systems results in various errors ("The operating system denied access to the specified file" etc.)
Make necessary changes[1]
  1. Copy the CD contents to a folder.
  2. Extract the InstallShield 3 32-bit Generic Installer into this folder.
  3. Right click setup32.exe and choose Properties.
  4. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  5. Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box and choose Windows 95.
  6. Run setup32.exe and follow the steps to install the game.
