Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Remove video files[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Video\ on Windows or <path-to-game>/share/data/video/ on OS X and Linux.
  2. Delete or rename intel_sting.bk2 and sting.bk2.

Activate Intel exclusive graphics options (AVSM & AOIT)

Edit hardware_settings_options.xml
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\system\
  2. Edit hardware_settings_options.xml with a Notepad.
  3. Search (Ctrl+F) for category name="intel_aoit"; locate the line <option name="on" lng="lng_on" dx11Only="true" intelExtensionsOnly="true"> and change intelExtensionsOnly="true" to "false".
  4. The next category below is category name="avsm" (Ctrl+F if not sure). It's for the second option (AVSM) and has the same structure.
  5. Locate the line <option name="on" lng="lng_on" dx11Only="true"> and replace it with <option name="on" lng="lng_on" dx11Only="true" intelExtensionsOnly="false">.
  6. Save and close, turn both options on in the graphics menu.

Secondary screen

A secondary monitor can be used to show race statistics. Intel's WiDi is also supported.[1]
If you are using a multi-monitor resolution in-game the secondary monitor can't be part of the spanned resolution.

Using mods

In most cases, Windows mods only need to be extracted into the game folder or the data folder. On OS X and Linux, the mod data should be extracted into <path-to-game>/share/data.

Game data

Gameplay settings.

Configuration file(s) location

System Location
Windows %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\GRID Autosport\
macOS (OS X)
Linux $XDG_DATA_HOME/feral-interactive/GRID Autosport/
This game follows the XDG Base Directory Specification on Linux.

Save game data location

System Location
Steam <Steam-folder>/userdata/<user-id>/255220/remote/
On Windows, replay data is stored in %PROGRAMDATA%\Codemasters\GRID Autosport\. Regardless of where the game is installed, it will attempt to use the %PROGRAMDATA% area to store the in-game replays. The game will work with a Windows NTFS junction point, allowing the folder to be mapped to alternate locations/drives.

Multi-monitor

Manually enable multi-monitor settings[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open hardwaresettings/hardware_settings_config.xml.
  3. Set force to one of the following, with p meaning portrait:
3x1, 5x1, 3x2, 3x1p, 5x1p, 3x2p

Anisotropic filtering (AF)

By default, even the Ultra setting only allows for a maximum of 16x but a minimum of 4x, leading to blurry distant textures.
While you can force it from your graphics control panel, it is preferable to use the game's anisotropic filtering to avoid rendering artifacts.
Edit configuration files
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\system\ and open hardware_settings_config.xml with a Notepad.
  2. Search (Ctrl+F) for the line lng_anisotropic_filtering. Below this line are the minimum and maximum value for each preset (Low, High, Ultra).
  3. Edit the min="x" and max="x" values (Where x is the Filtering multiplier) as you see fit. Set both to 16 for the highest image quality.
  4. Save and close. Launch the game, go to graphics settings. Switch the general preset to any other (this will reset all settings). This has to be done, otherwise the game will display the Anisotropic Filtering setting as "custom" and won't let you change it to the preset you edited before.

Issues unresolved

Corrupt Save Game

Although officially declared as resolved, some users are still reporting issues with save game corruption.
Some have reported that disabling Steam Cloud can help.
Disabling Steam Cloud[citation needed]
  1. Enter the Steam Library, and right click on [GRID Autosport].
  2. Go to the Updates tab.
  3. Uncheck 'Enable Steam Cloud synchronisation for GRID Autosport' and Close.
Your computer will no longer attempt to sync your saves with the Steam Cloud.

Issues fixed

Distant textures are blurry

In-game Anisotropic Filtering, even on Ultra, seems to produce poor results
See Anisotropic filtering (AF) for a workaround[2]

Stuttering

Might not work for everyone
Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Go to Graphics Settings
  2. Go to Quality - Advanced
  3. Turn on Rear-View Mirror (any quality)
