Issues fixed

Low FPS/stuttering

The low FPS is due to the game constantly trying to connect to a GameSpy server that no longer exists. A temporary fix to the issue is disconnecting the computer from the internet.

There are two methods available:

Method 1

Modifying the FSW.dll file[1]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open FSW.dll with a hex editor such as HxD.
  3. Using the Find function (Ctrl+F), search for the text string %s.available.gamespy.com. There will be exactly one entry.
  4. Replace the text with www.example.com/fixes/%s (or any other working link that is the same length as the original and contains %s somewhere. This particular link is guaranteed to work.)
  5. Save the file.
  6. Launch the game.

Method 2

Add hosts file entry[1]
  1. Run Notepad as an administrator.
  2. Open %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  3. Add this line to the bottom of the file: 127.0.0.1 fswpc.available.gamespy.com
  4. Save your changes and close the file.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/4520/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (4520) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
