Essential improvements

nGlide wrapper

FIFA World Cup 98 supports multiple rendering methods (Software Rendering, Direct3D and 3dfx). However, due to compatibility issues, it's recommended to use nGlide 3dfx wrapper.

Using nGlide with FIFA WC 98[citation needed]
  1. Download newest version of nGlide and install it.
  2. After you've installed both FIFA98 and nGlide, download a compatibility fix from this site (find FIFA World Cup 98 - the fix is in the right column).
  3. Extract the fix.
  4. Go to a folder where you've installed FIFA World Cup 98.
  5. Enter folder thrash in FIFA World Cup 98 folder.
  6. Replace voodoo2a.dll in World Cup 98\thrash, with a file downloaded in a fix.
    1. If you're using 64bit system, edit fifawc98.reg with a text editor before adding it to registry.
    2. Find [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA Sports\World Cup 98]
    3. Replace it with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA Sports\World Cup 98]
  7. Double click on fifawc98.reg provided by nGlide to change renderer to 3dfx.
  8. Launch PatchInstall.bat to add compatibility fixes to system database.

Issues fixed

Installing on 64-bit versions of Windows

Manual installation[citation needed]
  1. Create a folder named FIFA98WC somewhere on your hard disk (recommended location: C:\games\FFIFA98WC).
  2. From a root folder of FIFA cd copy files EACSND.DLL, EACSNDD.DLL, FIFAWC.EXE and FIFAWC98.ICO to FIFA98WC folder on your hard drive.
  3. Copy folders AUDIO, COMM, COMMON, FE and THRASH to FIFA98WC folder on your hard disk.
  4. From SETUP folder of your FIFA cd copy files 3DDATA.DAT, 3DDATA.EXE, 3DSETUP.EXE, D3DA.DLL and D3DTEST.DLL to FIFA98WC folder on your hard disk.
  5. If you had placed them in C:\Games\FIFA98WC then your folder structure would look like this:
  6. C:\games\FIFA98WC\AUDIO\ *files*
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\COMM\ *files*
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\COMMON\ *files*
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\FE\ *files*
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\THRASH\ *files*
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\3DDATA.DAT
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\3DDATA.EXE
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\3DSETUP.EXE
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\D3DA.DLL
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\D3DTEST.DLL
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\EACSND.DLL
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\EACSNDD.DLL
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\FIFAWC.EXE
    C:\games\FIFA98WC\FIFAWC98.ICO
  7. Now you need the registry entries. Copy the following into Notepad and save it as fifa.reg. Edit file paths if necessary. CD Drive should point have a latter of your CD drive.
  8. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA SPORTS\World Cup 98]
    "3D Device Description"="Software Renderer"
    "3D Card"="Software Renderer"
    "Thrash Driver"="softtri"
    "Group"="Software"
    "D3D Device"=dword:00000000
    "Triple Buffer"=dword:00000000
    "Hardware Acceleration"=dword:00000000
    "DisplayName"="World Cup 98"
    "Language"="english"
    "CD Drive"="D"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\EA SPORTS\World Cup 98\1.0]
    "DisplayName"="World Cup 98"
    "Language"=dword:00000001
  9. Add entries to system registry by double clicking on fifa.reg.
  10. Now, you should be able to start a game using fifawc.exe on your hard disk.

Notes

If a game asks to Insert a CD, launch regedit.exe and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\EA SPORTS\World Cup 98. Check entry CD Drive. As mentioned earlier CD Drive should point to your CD drive (either physical of virtual). If your CD drive has a latter G, the value for CD Drive should be G.
See nGlide wrapper for more improvements and fixes.

Black screen

  2. Extract it and launch PatchInstall.bat to add compatibility fixes to compatibility base.
