Issues fixed

Slow loading level and aero disabling

Occurs only on Windows Vista and Windows 7, because of the special graphic stack WDDM.
Fix slow load level and spontaneous shutdown aero interface
  • Install game and addons only on Windows XP, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.[5]

Notes

Using Windows 8.1 or 10 significantly reduces the launch time of the level, perhaps this is due to improvements in the WDDM graphics stack.[6]

Mouse deadzone and sensitivity problems

The game suffers from a deadzone for small mouse movements, as well as an unusually high sensitivity, even on the lowest settings.
Use raw mouse input fix[7]

Use FEAR 2 Mouse Fix for raw mouse input.

Peripheral audio channels cut off

The game doesn't properly play sounds coming from any direction except front + indirect sounds (player actions, music, interface, reverb). This makes it difficult to use audio cues during gameplay, such as when you're getting shot or hit from behind, resulting in unfair deaths.
Set sound properties to 96000 Hz[8]
  • Configuring speakers to use 96000 Hz seems to fix the issue. Tested on Windows 10, GOG-version of the game.

Notes

This will also fix the "sound acceleration error" on Windows 8.1

Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/16450/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (16450) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
