The Telltale Tool is the game-engine used by Telltale Games. Like GrimE, it uses the open source scripting language LUA.

Unlike GrimE, which used 3D character models on top of pre-rendered backgrounds, the Telltale Tool utilizes completely 3D characters and environments.

Early Telltale releases used direct mouse control movement, akin to the SCUMM interface of the first three games in the Monkey Island series. Starting with Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, games made with the Telltale Tool began using a direct control method of controlling the characters, either by a combination of direct control for the characters with a keyboard and mouse control for the objects, or by complete direct control with a joystick and keyboard similar to the GrimE interface used in Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island.

In Tales of Monkey Island, another control option was added to the Telltale Tool. Guybrush can be controlled completely by the mouse by dragging him around the screen.[1]
