Playing without the CD

Follow the procedure[citation needed]
  1. Install the game using a Custom Installer.[1]
  2. From the CD copy the folders MISSIONS, MOVIES and MUSIC to <path-to-game>\DUNE\Data\.
  3. Edit the file <path-to-game>\DUNE\RESOURCE.CFG and change it accordingly:

4. Install the Unofficial 1.06p patch and the Dune 2000 Config tool.
5. Use the Configuration Tool to set your desired resolution.
6. Run the game.

Installing on 64-bit versions of Windows

By using a custom installer[citation needed]
  1. Grab D2KInst.zip.[2]
  2. Extract D2Kinst.zip
  3. Insert the Dune 2000 CD in your optical drive.
  4. Run D2Kinst.exe and follow the prompts.
  5. Install Patch 1.06 if you would like your game to be up to date.
  6. Launch the game.
Manual method[citation needed]
  1. Run Universal Extractor.
  2. Extract SETUP\SETUP.Z on the CD to a folder somewhere convenient.
  3. Go to the extracted folder.
  4. Edit RESOURCE.CFG.
  5. Change data lines pointing to movies, music and missions to the optical drive (e.g. D:).
  6. Save your changes and close the file.
  7. Make a shortcut to DUNE2000.EXE somewhere convenient.
  8. Install Patch 1.06 if you would like your game to be up to date.

Notes

The CD must be in the drive to play.
If the game refuses to start a new game with the CD you have made a mistake with these steps.
