Field of view (FOV)

Use Dishonored FOV Hack[9]
To use this mod on Linux with Proton, run the game with the environment variable WINEDLLOVERRIDES set to "version=n,b". (In the General tab of the game's Properties window in Steam, put WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command% in the launch options field.)
Add FOV hotkey[10]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredInput.ini.
  3. Go down to the line m_PCBindings=(Name="Zero",Command="GBA_Shortcut_9")
  4. Add a new line below it: m_PCBindings=(Name="F4",Command="FOV 120")
  5. Change 120 to the FOV you want and save your changes.
  6. Press F4 during gameplay to use the new FOV.

Notes

This method will break the zoom-in during cutscenes. Your FOV will not change.

Anisotropic filtering (AF)

Changing Anisotropic Filtering level[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredEngine.ini.
  3. Change MaxAnisotropy=4 to MaxAnisotropy=16
  4. Save your changes.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Force SGSSAA (Nvidia only)[11][12]
  1. Download and run Nvidia Profile Inspector.
  2. Select the Dishonored profile.
  3. Change Antialiasing compatibility value to 0x080000C1.
  4. Change Antialiasing - Behavior Flags to None.
  5. Change Antialiasing - Mode to Override any application setting.
  6. Change Antialiasing - Setting to 4x [4x Multisampling].
  7. Change Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling.
  8. Press "Apply Changes" in the top-right corner.

Ambient occlusion

Force HBAO+ (Nvidia only)[13][14]
  1. Download and run Nvidia Profile Inspector.
  2. Select the Dishonored profile.
  3. Change Ambient Occlusion compatibility value to 0x0000002F.
  4. Change Ambient Occlusion setting to High Quality.
  5. Change Ambient Occlusion usage to Enabled.
  6. Press "Apply Changes" in the top-right corner.

High frame rate

Change frame rate smoothing[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredEngine.ini.
  3. Search and change bSmoothFrameRate to FALSE or raise MaxSmoothedFrameRate value.
  4. Save file.
For more information, see the Unreal Engine 3 page.
Disabling frame rate smoothing can cause issues such as the player being stuck in tilt position or not being able to walk through doors. Raising the MaxSmoothedFrameRate to different values (i.e. 146) appears to cause no issues.

Issues unresolved

The Knife of Dunwall: Crashing during the third act

The DLC appears to crash a lot for people in the third act, no solution.

Possible solution:

Crash during third act[citation needed]
  1. Go to the end of the act and talk to Billie Lurk.
  2. When Billie Lurk asks if you want to exit the level, say "No".
  3. Save the game.
  4. Go and talk to Billie Lurk again.
  5. Say "Yes" and exit the level.

The Knife of Dunwall: Low resolution textures on butchers

The game is using the low detail textures on butchers instead of the high detail textures.[18]

The Knife of Dunwall: Missing 2D image files

Generic placeholder images are replacing some 2D icons and images in-game.[19]

Game crash at startup

Some users report that turning Steam Cloud off and on again solves the problem.
Game crash at startup[citation needed]
  1. Go to the save game data location.
  2. Delete remotecache.vdf.
  3. Disable Steam Cloud (close settings window).
  4. Enable Steam Cloud (close settings window).
  5. Let Steam sync your saved games.
  6. Launch Dishonored.

Issues fixed

Screen turns white or very bright randomly during gameplay

Bright screen bug
Bright screen bug
Fix white/bright screen[citation needed]
  1. Right-click on Dishonored in the Steam client and click Properties.
  2. Uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.

"First time setup" runs every time game is started

Flag installations[20][21]
  1. Make sure the latest PhysX driver is installed
  2. Open cmd.exe and run: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\Apps\205100 /v PhysXRedist /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f /reg:32
  3. If it still doesn't work, run: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\Apps\205100 /v vcredist64 /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f /reg:32

Texture pop-in when switching weapons

Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredEngine.ini.
  3. Change the values of both MipFadeInSpeed0 and MipFadeInSpeed1 to 0.
Unless the high quality texture can be loaded right away by your computer, this can make the texture pop-in even more noticeable, since it only disables the fade that is meant to hide the transition from low to high quality texture.

Controller hotplugging does not work

Run the game as an administrator, as detailed here.

Game options cannot be saved or loaded when using a controller

The game forces you to pick either keyboard/mouse or controller when you first open the main menu. Everything works fine with keyboard and mouse; however, with a controller, while the settings can be changed, they will never be saved and the game will reload the default settings every time a save file is loaded.

Run the game executable as an administrator once[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Binaries\Win32\.
  2. Right click Dishonored.exe and hit "Run as Administrator".
  3. Steam should install some DirectX files, then the game will launch.
  4. Use a controller to enter the main menu and set your options. When you've changed your options and backed out, it should save them.
  5. From now on you should be able to save and load your options with a controller, even without running the game as adminstrator.

"High Overseer Campbell" meeting chamber bug

This gate to the right behind Overseer Martin will trigger the meeting chamber bug if opened.
This gate to the right behind Overseer Martin will trigger the meeting chamber bug if opened.
Opening the gate behind Overseer Martin during the "High Overseer Campbell" mission will trigger a bug with the main objective: High Overseer Campbell and Captain Curnow cut off their conversation too early, and everyone in the waiting area becomes alerted and rushes into the meeting chamber. The mission can still be completed, but several ways of solving the main objective are automatically failed.[22][23]
Avoid opening the bugged gate[22][23]

Complete the meeting chamber portion of the mission without opening the gate behind Overseer Martin (use climbing, Blink, or other methods to get inside without opening this particular gate).

"Creating a Safe Haven" side objective doesn't complete

After escorting the survivors past the Threat Zone, the game may still not give credit for the objective's completion. In order to successfully complete the quest, the player may need to perform the following action.
Place weeper corpse in the safe zone[24][25]

Return to the apartments and pick up a weeper corpse. Place this corpse in the safe zone with the other survivors.

After the objective is completed, do not turn on the nearby floodlights. Even though the survivors are no longer in the apartments, the objective will fail automatically when the tallboys begin to attack the apartments.[26]

Increase Texture Quality and Turn Off Texture Streaming

Edit Configuration File[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open DishonoredEngine.ini.
  3. To disable mipmapping for world-textures (which should be most noticable), find the line TEXTUREGROUP_World=(MinLODSize=256,MaxLODSize=2048,LODBias=0) and replace it with TEXTUREGROUP_World=(MinLODSize=256,MaxLODSize=2048,LODBias=0,NumStreamedMips=0) (similarly, to disable mipmapping for any other texture group, simply append NumStreamedMips=0 inside the parentheses, making sure to add the needed comma(s)).
  4. Change these lines and save as read-only:
MipFadeInSpeed0=0
MipFadeOutSpeed0=0
MipFadeInSpeed1=0
MipFadeOutSpeed1=0
StopIncreasingLimit=20
MinTimeToGuaranteeMinMipCount=0
MaxTimeToGuaranteeMinMipCount=0
OnlyStreamInTextures=True
PoolSize=0
LoadMapTimeLimit=999
LightmapStreamingFactor=0
ShadowmapStreamingFactor=0
bAllowSwitchingStreamingSystem=False
UseDynamicStreaming=False
SkeletalLODDistanceFactorMultiplier=0
StaticLODDistanceFactorMultiplier=0
TextureForcedLODBias=0
DetailMode=4
May cause game to enter an infinite loading loop. If it does, turn texture streaming back on, leave that area of the game, and turn it off again once you leave the area.

Increase Shadows Quality

Edit Configuration File[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open DishonoredEngine.ini.
  3. Change these lines and save as read-only:
ShadowFilterQualityBias=0
MinShadowResolution=2048
MaxShadowResolution=4096
bAllowWholeSceneDominantShadows=True
MaxWholeSceneDominantShadowResolution=4096
ShadowTexelsPerPixel=0

Stop bodies from disappearing

Increase Default Number of Bodies In Areas[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredAI.ini.
  3. Modify the values of m_CorpseAbsoluteMaximumCount and m_CorpseIdealMaximumCount as necessary (e.g. m_CorpseAbsoluteMaximumCount=1000 and m_CorpseIdealMaximumCount=500).
  4. Modify m_bCorpseCleanupInView= value from true to false.

Display/Hide HUD

Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredInput.ini.
  3. Add this line m_PCBindings=(Name="F6",Command="ShowHUD true").
  4. Press F6 to hide or display HUD.
Removing the HUD also eliminates the letterbox in cutscenes.[10]

Mute Note/Book Reading Ambient Sound Effect

Mute Note/Book Reading SE[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\DishonoredGame\CookedPCConsole\.
  2. To mute the sound effect simply rename the file Bank_UI_Ingame_Note.pck to something else, such as Bank_UI_Ingame_Note.backup.

Mute all Powers Sound Effects

Mute Powers SFX[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\DishonoredGame\CookedPCConsole\.
  2. To mute the sound effect simply rename the file Bank_Power_Player.pck to something else, such as Bank_Power_Player.backup.

Change sprint/run from hold to toggle

Change default sprint/run behavior from a hold to a toggle, activated while moving, no need to hold down button[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open DishonoredInput.ini.
  3. Find a line that resembles m_PCBindings=(Name="LeftShift",Command="GBA_Sprint").
  4. Alter the line so that it reads m_PCBindings=(Name="LeftShift",Command="GBA_Sprint | DisToggleSprint TRUE").
  5. Save the file, it is recommended to make it read-only to prevent the game from resetting it.

Add Mission Stats menu

Adds "Statistics" button in pause menu, so it is possible to check statistics mid-mission.
  1. Download the mod here, then extract its content in <path-to-game>\Binaries\Win32\.
  2. Change the mod options by editing missionstats.ini with a text editor in <path-to-game>\Binaries\Win32\NativeMods\.

Notes

Works with Steam and GOG.com versions.
