Key points

Also known as Hour of Darkness. Content previously only available with PSP version of the game, Afternoon of Darkness, is included in the game.

The PC version lacks the enhancements that are in the newer PS4 and Switch version and even newer mobile version, like HD character sprites and auto-battle.

Version differences

• Digital Deluxe Dood Edition was only available in pre-order period and contained artbook and soundtrack. Soundtrack is currently unavailable because of licencing issues and will contain 10 remastered tracks instead of 32 original ones.
• Digital Dood Edition contains artbook.
• Deluxe Dood Edition was limited physical version which was purchasable either with or without digital Steam key. It contained hard covered physical artbook and soundtrack as CD with all 32 original tracks.

Install the Pretty Prinny mod[citation needed]
Download and extract the mod files. Copy and paste the files excluding pad.* files into <path-to-game>. Open the PrettyPrinny.ini with preferred text editor and edit settings.

Netherworld Content Pack

• Features bonus content from Disgaea DS, including cutscenes and dialogue that are otherwise missing from the PC release
• Fixes some minor glitches of the original game
• Adds some extra content

Install the Netherworld Content Pack[citation needed]
Copy all files contained within the RAR file to your desired work directory. First, Move or Copy "dis1_st.exe" to your Disgaea PC install directory. Finally, Move or Copy "SUBDATA.DAT" to your Disgaea PC install directory.

Disgaea PC HD Sprites

• Decent alternative to Complete's HD character sprites, though doesn't replace all of them (yet).

Install Disgaea PC HD Sprites (with additional fixes from Zelaphor and Dexter)
Download [1] and [2] Extract them to your Disgaea PC install directory.

Make compatible with Netherworld Content Pack

Download and install disgaea pc tools. Open the Disgaea PC HD Sprites's subdata.dat (first download on regular install instructions). Extract start.dat. Open start.dat. Copy anm00.dat. Open the Netherworld Content Pack's subdata.dat. Extract start.dat. Open start.dat. Swap in the anm00.dat from Disgaea PC HD Sprites. Save start.dat Open subdata,dat Replace start.dat with the start.dat you have extracted and saved. Save subdata.dat Cannot use Netherworld Content Pack's included Transmigration fixed exe due to Disgaea PC HD Sprites needing it's own patched exe that fixes crashing when subdata.dat goes over 180MB in size.

Graphics settings. Full Screen Window option isn't visible if game is set to Fullscreen mode.

For 2D sprites, character filter option which toggles scaling between nearest neighbor and bilinear filtering. Use Pretty Prinny to fix issues with bilinear filtering.

Most of the issues with optimization, hardware utilizing and controller querying should be fixed with patch 03-02-16.

Use dedicated GPU (laptops)[citation needed]
Force use of dedicated GPU through either Nvidia control panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center, either globally or game-specific profile.

Menus scrolling automatically

Should be fixed as latest patches include native XInput support.

This is most likely caused by game detecting some of computers devices as controller and picking it up as primary/only one. This can mean physical devices like mouse and webcams to virtual and physical unused controllers.

People with Steam Link and Controller seem to be having major issues with this, see further below for solution.

Remove unused controllers[citation needed]
Push ⊞ Win+R and type joy.cpl then push OK. From Advanced settings... set your used controller as primary one and then push OK. Locate all unused controllers listed and either unplug them physically, disable them from device manager or with virtual controllers uninstall from control panel.

Steam Controller and Link

Analog stick acts as 8-directional digital input

Update to the game in March 17, 2016 added native XInput 1.4 support into the game, however it altered the input so that analog movement doesn't work anymore. It also made Steam controller and link work with the game, but at the same time introduced issues with XInput devices especially with windows version of 7 and earlier.

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Fullscreen mode defaults to 60 Hz, even if the screen refresh rate is set higher than that.
