Devil May Cry HD Collection is a game in the Devil May Cry series and includes remastered versions of Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition.
A controller is recommended as keyboard support is bare bones, and there is no mouse support in-game.
Devil May Cry 1 is missing some video effects (like motion blur, depth of field) and has audio bugs.[2]
Devil May Cry 3 has various effects weakened (such as motion blur, ghosting, and depth of field) and textures lack transparency.[3][4] See shu_bham and cheburat0r's fixes and DMCHD Collection Helix Mod for restoring most textures. There are no mods for restoring Greed's bloom on the top portion of the coffin, Nevan's cutscene eye flashing, or the sign's flickering at the end for example.

Video
Video Settings (main launcher).
- Some of the textures, Dante's bangs, Mission 7's Moon, Mission 20's demon world gate have been fixed.
- Many others have been replaced with textures taken from Devil May Cry 4, changing the look significantly.
- Most textures have been upscaled
- Many have been replaced with very different, and sometimes lower detail, textures[6]
- Applies to DMC 3 only.
Use DDMK[citation needed]
|
- Once DMC3 is running, press Ctrl+D to open the DDMK menu.
- Search for the menu entry
Speed and set Main value to either 0.5 for 120 FPS or 60 divided by desired framerate for arbitrary FPS value. Example: 60/120 = 0.5 , thus 0.5 would be the Main speed.
- Search for the menu entry
System and set Frame Rate accordingly.
- Close DDMK menu and values will be applied automatically.
- See Run the game at screen refresh rate to force screen refresh rate in exclusive fullscreen.
Notes
- Arbitrary framerate values such as 144 FPS have not been tested but should be possible. Using 120 FPS as primary example for game logic stability.
- Physics puzzles get harder to solve (for example, the two spheres puzzle in Mission 16).

Issues unresolved
Devil May Cry 1 crashing on AMD Phenom/Athlon CPUs
- Several users are reporting that Devil May Cry 1 will not run on AMD Phenom processors due to a lack of SSE4.1 support.[8]
- DMC 2 and DMC 3 SE do not appear to have this problem.
- The AMD FX lineup is not affected.
Issues fixed
The game/launcher won't launch
Run the game at screen refresh rate
- Fullscreen mode defaults to 60 Hz even if the screen refresh rate is set higher than that.
Override refresh rate set by game[9]
|
- Download Devil May Cry HD Collection 3D Vision Fix.
- Extract the contents to the installation folder.
- Open
d3dx.ini and go to the [Device] section.
- Uncomment the line
;refresh_rate=60 by removing the ; from the line and change value to 120 or higher depending on the display's refresh rate.
|
Devil May Cry 3 text appearing irregularly (squished/glitchy/flickering)
- Mostly happens to AMD Graphics Drivers.
- Regular text and subtitles may appear with garbled text underneath.
Use DXVK. More info here.
|
- Download the latest
dxvk-xxx.tar.gz file.
- Open the archive and extract
dxgi.dll and d3d11.dll from the x64 folder to the main installation folder. (same as dmc3.exe )
- If DMC HD Fix by Lyall is installed, it's safe to overwrite
d3d11.dll .
- Fixes all text issues.
- It can interfere with overlays from other products such as Fraps, Bandicam, Steam Overlay, etc.
|
Set dmc3.exe to run in compatibility mode to Windows 7
|
- Only fixes the garbled artifacts, not the squished text.

Mods
DDMK
- Requires at least 2652019 Build ID (April 2, 2018 update) of the game.
- Recently, a patch was released for the HD Collection (August 1, 2023). At the moment, the changes are unknown but it generated a bug that DDMK does not work when installed in the game, causing it to abruptly close. It is possible to downgrade only the executables of the game to make the mod work again. The executables can be downloaded here.
- Features Style Switcher, Arcade mode, Boss Rush, multiplayer, texture injection, input spam reduction, and more.
- Download and install DirectX Redistributable (June 2010), Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 32-bit and 64-bit.
- Download DDMK here.
- Extract the contents of
HDC
folder to <path-to-game>
to install the mod.
- After installing the mod, run DMC1/2/3 at least once so the cache files are created.
- Press Ctrl+D in-game to open the mod menu.
- Adds style selector indicators in the interface, in the style of the Nintendo Switch version.
- Requires DDMK to operate.
- Can be used with the Helix Mod/DDMK by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc3\GData.afs
(a folder created upon launching DMC3 with DDMK installed, or a folder that can be manually created).
- Replaces the Xbox button prompts into PS4.
- Texture related prompts are only applied for the English language option.
- Can be used with the Helix Mod/DDMK by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc3\GData.afs
(a folder created upon launching DMC3 with DDMK installed, or a folder that can be manually created).
- Replaces the Xbox button prompts into Switch.
- Texture related prompts are only applied for the English language option.
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Button Prompts Mod
- Changes the look of the main menu screen by making the background black instead of white.
- Replaces nearly all menus in DMC3 with widescreen versions[10]
- Replaces the Style part of Dante's HUD with one closely inspired by DMC4's Style HUD for better support of Style Switcher play in DDMK: the game's original HUD can be retained by not copying over the file
id100.pac
.
- Does not replace the Bloody Palace results or tutorial messages with widescreen versions, and some of the menus such as the Mission Clear images and map cannot be changed.
- Fixes the lack of hair (and Lady's bandages) transparency for all three characters in DMC3 (by shu_bham).[11]
- Includes cheburat0r fixes for the pixelated Hellgate Eye texture in Mission 20 and moon texture.
- Can be used with the Helix Mod/DDMK by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc3\GData.afs
(a folder created upon launching DMC3 with DDMK installed, or a folder that can be manually created).
- While most of DMC3's cutscenes are in engine, some were prerendered with in-game assets and were not re-rendered or upscaled for the HD release
- Decreases the jaggedness of these scenes to better upscale for HD displays while decreasing file size of the movies.
- Install by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc3\Video
and overwriting
- Makes the ingame DMC3 Dante better resemble the cutscene model.[12]
- Makes Dante's standard Coat match the cutscenes' colors and detail (by shu_bham).[13]
- Includes fix to make Dante's ingame face texture match his cutscene texture (by cheburat0r).
- Install by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc3\GData.afs
- The DMC1 pre-rendered movie has been upscaled to 720p.
- Install by extracting the files to
<path-to-game>\data\dmc1\Video
and overwriting
- Only the English version has been upscaled.
- Lowered bitrate, lowered field of view
- 3D Vision fix for Devil May Cry HD Collection meant to be run with Special K.
- Provides updated texture injection and includes toggles for cutscene black bars, depth of field, bloom, ghosting, etc., with rebindable keys.
- This pack includes high-res menu artwork, high-res moon, Dante hair transparency fix, and launcher fix for DMC3. Details about the hi-res artwork and texture changes can be found in this Steam discussion thread.
- Does not fix the lack of texture transparency for Lady's bandage.
