Field of view (FOV)

Use Gibbed.DeadRising2.Tools[4][5]
  1. Download Gibbed.DeadRising2.Tools and extract it somewhere.
  2. Go to the Dead Rising 2 Off the Record installation folder, and open the data folder.
  3. Drag datafile.big and place it onto Gibbed.DeadRising2.Unpack.exe.
  4. When it's finished unpacking, open the datafile_big folder that was created in the data folder.
  5. Open camera.txt with Notepad, and click Edit -> Replace.
  6. Type FOV = "43" in the Find, and FOV = "63" in the Replace (change 63 to desired FOV) and click Replace All.
  7. Some other cameras use FOV = "45" which can also be replaced, such as in the cVehicleBehaviorCam PushableCam section.
  8. Save the file.
  9. Drag the datafile_big folder and place it onto Gibbed.DeadRising2.Pack.exe. This will create a new file called datafile_big.big.
  10. Backup the original datafile.big by renaming it to something else.
  11. Rename datafile_big.big to datafile.big.

Notes

Vehicles have a modifier that decreases FOV by -7 when moving at full speed. Changing this to 0 in each entry will stabilize the FOV.

Issues fixed

Using Notepad to modify game files may cause errors.[citation needed] Use Notepad++ to edit the .ini files mentioned on this page.

Game crashes to desktop on launch after spawning windowed mode then fullscreen

Install to C drive or install first to C then move files and make a junction point to C location

Game crashes to desktop on launch

The audio-related crash was resolved in the 20 May 2015 patch released for the Steam version.
Set sound quality to 24 bit, 48000 Hz[citation needed]

See Sound problems (cracking, delays, missing music/effects, etc.)

Update Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable[citation needed]
The game will not warn you about client issues, just silently crash.
  1. Uninstall Microsoft Games for Windows – LIVE Redistributable.
  2. Uninstall Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace.
  3. Install the Games for Windows Marketplace Client.
Check Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant status[citation needed]
These steps do not apply to Windows 8 and later.
  1. Open Services:
    • Vista and later: open the Start Screen/Start Menu, type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Windows XP: press Win+R, type services.msc and press Enter.
  2. In the new window, open the entry for Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant.
  3. Ensure Startup type is set to Automatic and confirm by pressing OK.
  4. Restart your computer.
Crashes upon Startup with Windows 10 Creators Update[citation needed]
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record installs on Windows 10 Creators Update, but launching the game fails. It appears that something is causing the game to not create the RenderSettings.ini file.
  1. If you have Dead Rising 2 installed (which is oddly NOT affected by this issue), you can use the RenderSettings.ini generated by it to get Dead Rising 2: Off the Record working.
  2. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2\
  3. Right click on and select to copy the RenderSettings.ini from this folder.
  4. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Dead Rising 2: Off the Record\
  5. Paste the RenderSettings.ini file into the root of this folder
  6. Launch the Game

Game crashes to desktop during intro credits or first stage

Fixing early gameplay crashes[citation needed]
The example used in this guide is for Steam downloads.
  1. Follow the recommendations in the audio sample rate fix, above. If you continue to have issues, read on.
  2. Open Programs and Features:
    • Vista and later: Open the Start screen/Start menu, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
    • Windows XP: Press Win+R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Remove both Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable and Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace.
  4. Install the Games for Windows Marketplace Client.
  5. Go to <path-to-game>\support\DirectX\. Run DXSETUP.exe and allow any additional components to install.
  6. Go back up to the installation folder. Like steps 5 and 6, set deadrising2otr.exe to run as an administrator and in compatibility mode, but this time select Windows 7 as the mode. Press OK to accept the changes.
  7. Run deadrising2otr.exe by double-clicking on it, instead of through Steam.
  8. Allow Games for Windows Live to automatically update, but do not reboot; simply continue with the game as normal.

Notes

If you are able to play the game to the point of standing in a locker room, then this fix has worked.
