Essential improvements

Patches

For the Russian version, use Russian patch 1.0.0.1.
A title update is available. The game should automatically prompt for the update when using a LIVE profile; the update can also be downloaded manually (extract the contents and run setup.exe).[6]

HD Frontend

Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Download HD frontend.
  2. Extract data into <path-to-game>.
  3. Accept replacements.
  4. Start the game and the new changes should be in effect.

Notes

UndeadFrankie's HD frontend Fixes many compression artifacts on hud, menus, loading screens & map[7].
Breaks the Off the Record version.

Tervel's DR2Fix

Fixes various shader problems exclusive to the PC port of Dead Rising 2, as well as adding console gamma to provide a visual experience accurate to X360
Instructions
  1. Download DR2Fix.zip
  2. Extract the file to <path-to-game>

DR2Hookary

DR2Hookary enables the ability to skip intro logos, play in windowed or borderless fullscreen, and an optional debug menu (useful if you are creating/using modifications).
Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Download DR2Hookary.
  2. Place DR2Hookary.asi and DR2Hookary.ini into <path-to-game>.
  3. Download the 32-bit version of Ultimate ASI Loader.
  4. Place dinput8.dll into <path-to-game>.
  5. Open DR2Hookary.ini and set the options to the desired ones, then save the file.
  6. Start the game and the new changes should be in effect.

DR2 Mouse Injector

Fixes the game's positive/negative acceleration leftover from analog stick movement by injecting raw mouse input into the game
Install
  1. Download DR2 Mouse Injector.
  2. Extract the file to <path-to-game>

Notes

In order to use the injector with Ultimate ASI Loader, move the files from DLLMods to <path-to-game> and change DR2MouseInjector.dll from .dll to .asi

Field of view (FOV)

Use Gibbed.DeadRising2.Tools[8][9]
  1. Download Gibbed.DeadRising2.Tools and extract it somewhere.
  2. Go to <path-to-game>, and open data.
  3. Drag datafile.big and place it onto Gibbed.DeadRising2.Unpack.exe.
  4. When it's finished unpacking, open datafile_big that was created in data.
  5. Open camera.txt with Notepad, and click Edit → Replace.
  6. Type FOV = "43" in the Find, and FOV = "63" in the Replace (change 63 to desired FOV) and click Replace All.
  7. Some other cameras use FOV = "45" which can also be replaced, such as in the cVehicleBehaviorCam PushableCam section.
  8. Save the file.
  9. Drag datafile_big and place it onto Gibbed.DeadRising2.Pack.exe. This will create a new file called datafile_big.big.
  10. Backup the original datafile.big by renaming it to something else.
  11. Rename datafile_big.big to datafile.big.

Notes

Vehicles have a modifier that decreases FOV by -7 when moving at full speed. Changing this to 0 in each entry will stabilize the FOV.

Disable Depth of Field

Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Navigate to the game's data folder and copy datafile.big to the same location as the extracted Gibbed tools.
  2. Drag the datafile.big on top of Gibbed.DeadRising2.Unpack.exe.
  3. Open the resulting datafile_big folder in a text editor capable of opening entire folders, such as Visual Studio Code.
  4. In VSC, click the magnifying glass icon on the left to open the search and replace functions.
  5. Search for mCombinedDOF to find nearly 700 results.
  6. In the Replace bar, enter xCombineDOF.
  7. You should be able to right-click one of the file entries and select Replace All.
  8. Alternatively, press Ctrl+ Shift+1 as a hotkey for the right-click option; this can be mashed to save changes across all files rapidly.
  9. Drag the aforementioned datafile_big folder on top of Gibbed.DeadRising2.Pack.exe.
  10. Rename and then copy and replace the datafile.big file within the game's data folder.

Notes

Requires use of an editor like Visual Studio Code as well as Gibbed Dead Rising 2 Tools.

Disable Screen Vignette

Instructions[citation needed]
  1. Copy the first three steps to disable depth of field.
  2. Open animated_postfx_events.txt.
  3. Towards the top of the file, replace all min and max values relating to vignette with 0.
  4. Save changes to the file.
  5. Drag the aforementioned datafile_big folder on top of Gibbed.DeadRising2.Pack.exe.
  6. Rename and then copy and replace the datafile.big file within the game's data folder.

Notes

Requires use of an editor like Visual Studio Code as well as Gibbed Dead Rising 2 Tools.

Verified by comparing the proposed fix and the standard stereo configuration and found there was a noticeable difference in audio volume and clarity.

Various other console-to-PC ports that use XAudio2 from around the time (see Silent Hill Homecoming) have similar bugs related to downmixing from 5.1, so I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens here.
