Field of view (FOV)

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Changing your Field of View may cause issues with recoil when hip firing guns.[3]
Edit default_levels.xml[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\DI\
  2. Open Data0.pak with 7-Zip.
  3. Inside Data0.pak navigate to data\skills and open default_levels.xml.
  4. Find CameraDefaultFOV and replace 62.5 with your desired FOV.
  5. Save. If 7-Zip asks if you want to update the file in the archive click Yes.

Borderless fullscreen windowed

Use Borderless Gaming[5]
  1. Install Borderless Gaming and run it alongside the game.
  2. In the app, right-click Dead Island and select Add to Favorites by the process binary name
  3. Under Favorites, right-click DeadIslandGame and disable Auto-Maximize
  4. Turn off Fullscreen in the game options

Remove Chromatic Aberration

Has to be modded out because the setting in the Options menu doesn't fully disable Chromatic Aberration.
The mod only works when antialiasing are turned on.
Use pre-modded Data0.pak[6]
  1. Backup Data0.pak in <path-to-game>\DI\.
  2. Download the fixed Data0.pak.
  3. Move the newly renamed Data0.pak to <path-to-game>\DI\.
Modify Data0.pak manually[citation needed]
  1. Backup Data0.pak in <path-to-game>\DI\.
  2. Download the Chromatic Aberration Removal v3 mod.
  3. Extract the data folder from the download; ignore the data3.pak.
  4. In the extracted data folder, go to scripts and delete frame_script_game.scr.
  5. Go to <path-to-game>\DI\
  6. Open Data0.pak with 7-Zip.
  7. Copy/add the modded data folder to Data0.pak.

Remove crosshair

Edit hud.xui[7]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\DI\
  2. Open Data0.pak with 7-Zip.
  3. Inside Data0.pak navigate to data\menu\hud and extract hud.xui.
  4. Right-click hud.xui, open Properties, uncheck Read-only, click OK.
  5. Open hud.xui with a text editor.
  6. Find the line <Id>HudCrosshair</Id>
  7. Below that, add this on a new line: <Opacity>0.000000</Opacity>
  8. Save the file, and drag and drop it back into the hud folder.

Aim Assist

The PC port of DIDE has aim assist. There is no way to disable this.[8]

Issues fixed

Game won't launch on open source AMD drivers on Linux

Use a specific library for Mesa and override the OpenGL Mesa verison at launch
  1. Download and unpack the library file into the installation folder
  2. In Set Launch Options... on Steam add this code at the beginning
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.5 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=450 %command%

Launch the game.
