Key points

Updated re-release of the PC version with more graphical options and bugfixes.
Lacks the classic soundtrack by The Offspring and Bad Religion and restaurants advertisements from the arcade and Dreamcast versions. See Crazy Taxi Overhaul to restore the original advertisments and original soundtrack as well as adding music from other Crazy Taxi games and improving the sound effects and voice-overs.
Lacks proper analog controls. While the sticks can be used, it is interpreted digitally. See Crazy Taxi Analog Controller Unofficial Fix to add proper analog controls.
Suffers from poor performance similarly to the 2011 version.[1][2] See DXVK to fix the performance.
Internal resolution is locked to 720p like in Crazy Taxi (2011). Use Universal Resolution Changer v2 to increase internal resolution.

Essential improvements

Crazy Taxi Analog Controller Unofficial Fix

Use only if you like Steam release changes. Otherwise use Crazy Taxi Overhaul.
Adds proper analog input for the left stick and triggers.

Crazy Taxi Overhaul

Improves the overall audio and visual quality of the game in the following ways:
  • High quality versions of the original soundtrack by The Offspring and Bad Religion.
  • High quality versions of Crazy Taxi 2 and 3 soundtracks by The Offspring and Bad Religion.
  • Higher quality versions of the included soundtrack in addition to the tracks above.
  • Higher quality sound effects and voice-overs.
  • Fixes problems with analog steering.
  • Additionally features restoration of Levi's, Pizza Hut and KFC adverts and location names from original Dreamcast release.

DXVK

A Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 9/10/11 intended for allowing 3D applications to run on Linux.
Works on all operating systems as long as your GPU supports Vulkan.
Fixes all performance problems with Crazy Taxi, maintaining a consistent frame-rate throughout.[4]
DXVK
  1. Download DXVK here.
  2. Extract the contents of the dxvk-*.tar.gz file with 7zip or WinRAR.
  3. Copy d3d9.dll from the x32 folder and paste it in the game's installation folder.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/71230/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (71230) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.

Compared both 2011 and current 2014 versions of the game without DXVK and they both ran poorly the longer the play session went, despite my PC exceeding recommended requirements.
