The Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller is a game controller released by Nintendo on November 21, 1990. It was released alongside the SNES.

Compare to its predecessor, the SNES Controller added two more face buttons and two shoulder buttons.

In Japan, the controller was released as Super Famicom Controller, which is essentially the same controller but with different coloring. Unlike the Japanese version of its predecessor, the Super Famicom Controller can be detached from the Super Famicom console. A replica of the SNES Controller was released in 2017 alongside the SNES Classis Edition mini-console, and can be connected to the Wii Remote.

Because it has a proprietary controller port, the original SNES controller requires a third-party adapter to be used in order to connect to the PC, but even then, they will act as a generic DirectInput device. The Wii-compatible models requires either a Wii Remote or a third-party adapter to be used on PC.

Inputs

  • 2 × digital shoulder buttons: 𝐋, 𝐑
  • 6 × digital buttons: 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐗, 𝐘, sᴛᴀʀᴛ, sᴇʟᴇᴄᴛ
  • 4 × digital directional buttons (d-pad): , , ,
