Key points

Connects via micro USB cable or wireless pairing dongle (included with the controller).
Adds full controller support to virtually any game because of Big Picture integration with high customization and being able to use XInput, keyboard and mouse inputs.
Does not function as a controller when used without Steam running (shows up as an HID device).[1] Linux users can resolve this by using the Standalone Steam Controller Driver.

Wasn't supported originally at launch; nowadays it's supported but is prone to more issues than Windows and Linux.

Can work standalone without Steam by using custom drivers here.

Even though controller should be compatible with almost every single game, games can add native support for the controller, which can include native button prompts, haptic feedback and official configurations with aliased text for games features.
