Key points
- Requires adapter to connect to PC.
- Lacks native XInput support, requiring the use of a XInput wrapper (see XInput wrappers) for games that do not support DirectInput or the controller natively.
- The controller connects to the system via a DE-9 port.

Controller variations
- Model 2 changed cable location, now the lead comes out at the top.
- Model 3 - the hole for the thumbstick is completely removed. This version was introduced and most commonly associated with the Sega Master System II and was the only model used in Brazil.
- South Korean models Gam*Boy (red), Gam*Boy II (blue), Gam*Boy II-newer (sky-blue). Samsung adopted their own controller for the console, which was given several new colour schemes throughout its lifespan.

- Acting as native DirectInput controller, it's possible to use any of the generic wrappers. See the controller article for those.
