The Fanatec Speedster 3 are a series of racing wheels released by Fanatec since October 10, 2003.
Unlike previous Speedster wheels, the Speedster 3 have the stick shifter removed in favor of the steering-mounted paddle shifters. Other features from the Speedster 2, including metal center springs and built-in rumble motors, were retained. Depending on the models, the wheel is emulate either as a DualShock/DualShock 2 or as an Xbox Controller.
The Speedster 3 is followed by the Speedster 3 ForceShock, which replaced the metal center springs with a basic gear-driven force feedback that react to the rumble signals. An Xbox-compatible model, Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox, was later released.
Because all Speedster 3 models use the proprietary controller port (PlayStation controller port on the Speedster 3 and the Speedster 3 ForceShock, Xbox controller port on the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox), a third-party adapter is needed, and depending on what adapter is used, the wheel can be show up either as a DirectInput device or an XInput device when connected to the PC. Note that outside of the included pedal set, all Speedster 3 wheels doesn't have pressure-sensitive buttons.

Controller variations
- The Speedster 3 is the first model in the lineup.
- The Speedster 3 ForceShock replaced the metal center springs with a basic gear-driven force feedback that react to the rumble signals.
- The Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox is a Xbox-compatible version of the Speedster 3 ForceShock.
Use with PC platforms
- Depending on the adapter used, the Speedster 3 and the Speedster 3 ForceShock will show up as a DirectInput device or an XInput device.
- Depending on the platform, the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox may requires drivers specifically made for the original Xbox Controller.
Windows
XInput wrapping
- The Speedster 3 and the Speedster 3 ForceShock can be act as native DirectInput controllers, it's possible to use any of the generic wrappers. See the controller article for those.
reWASD
- For the Speedster 3 and the Speedster 3 ForceShock only.
- Support the wheels via OSTENT PS2 to PS3 USB Adapter, does not require manual driver installment.[1]
- Allows emulate virtual DS4 controller to play PS4 Remote Play, PS Now or Dualshock 4 compatible games. Including gyro and accelerometer control.
- Allows emulate virtual Xbox 360 controller to play XInput compatible games.
- Not free of charge. 14-days trial.
XBCD Driver
- For the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox only.
- Specialized driver for the Xbox Controller and related peripherals.
- Officially supports 32 Product IDs, although manual installation sometimes works for unrecognized deivces[2]. See list of supported devices.
- Works with every adapters as a DirectInput device.
- XBCD Setup Utility tool allows rebind every button, assign pressure sensitive buttons to analog axes (or transform them into digital buttons), set dead-zones for sticks, set level of rumble intensity or thresholds when buttons can be activated.
- Only 3 pressure sensitive axis are free to use. At least 2 buttons will be not remapped, and support of buttons remapped to the same axis will needs specialized software to make them supported.
- Complicated installation. Requires disabling driver signature enforcement in Windows, as driver is not digitally signed.
- Currently no support for wireless controllers.
Mayflash Tigergame Driver
- For the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox only.
- Mayflash Tigergame Xbox joystick driver is the Alternative to XBCD. Allows to use analog sticks by changing "Controller mode" from "digital" to "analog".
- Despite its name, it works with every adapters as a DirectInput device.
- The driver is digitally signed. Works as designed after finishing driver installation.
- Allows switching "Controller mode" between Digital (analog stick works as d-pad), Analog (recognizing two analog sticks giving the closest experience to Xbox 360 gamepads), Flight (for steering wheels), DDR (for dancing pads - D-Pad directions can respond like buttons and you can also hold down opposite directions without the joystick canceling out on you).
- Supports only pressure-sensitive axis, which can be assigned to two from 8 pressure-sensitive buttons (2 triggers or two from 8 pressure sensitive face buttons). Assigning two buttons as "analog", locking other buttons in "digital" mode.
- Limited INF for automatic driver detection. Easily side-stepped by manually installing the driver[3].
- No dead-zone adjustment. If joysticks are even slightly worn out character will be flying one direction or the other in a game-sensing digital joystick. Some developers are including dead-zone adjustment within their game. However, that is on a case-by-case basis. May require 3rd party application to apply dead-zones.
- Button remapping is very limited within the tab. It does not allow the end-user to map direction as a button or to add additional buttons past 16.
OS X
- For the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox only.
- Use the 360Controller driver with Xbox USB adapter.
Linux
- For the Speedster 3 ForceShock for Xbox only.
- This controller is "Plug and Play" on most distributions of Linux, although requires Xbox USB adapter.
- Xboxdrv is an alternative to the stock driver and allows many configuration options.
Steam
- When use as a generic DirectInput device, Steam cannot recognize the wheel and requiring remapping it via Steam Input.
Support in games
- Games with generic DirectInput support are supported by the controller, however button placements may be out of place and need to be rebound. Refer to game-specific articles for rebinding support.
