Normally the game is stretched when using widescreen.
Use widescreen fix
  1. Download the widescreen fix.
  2. Extract into <path-to-game>.

Field of view (FOV)

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Set custom FOV[citation needed]
  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Edit autoexec.cfg with Notepad.
  3. Add "FovY" "XX" at the end where XX is the desired vertical FOV.

Force SGSSAA (Nvidia only)[3]
  1. Disable the in-game FSAA option.
  2. Download and run Nvidia Profile Inspector.
  3. Search and open the game profile.
  4. Set Antialiasing Compatibility to 0x000000C0.

HD Textures

Neural Origins mod. Original game textures upscaled with neural networks. All game textures are upscaled. Download on ModDB and Nexus.

Doesn't contains normal maps, so textures feel flat and unnatural.

Issues fixed

Low frame rate

Frame rate may drop to around 20-30 FPS after a few minutes of play.
Use DirectInput FPS Fix
  1. Download the DirectInput FPS Fix.
  2. Extract into <path-to-game>.

Missing sound effects in Steam version

In particular, the train sounds at the end of chapter four are missing.[5] The footage from "The Dark" game prototype is also corrupted.[6]
Use Condemned Missing Steam Files Fix[7]

Keyboard settings reset to unassigned

Some settings can't be saved unless the game is launched as administrator.
Use Condemned Widescreen Fix[citation needed]
This fix moves save game data location from %PUBLIC%\Documents\ to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\.

Soft shadows don't work with in-game FSAA

This is due to the features of the engine and the artificial limitation of the simultaneous use of anti-aliasing with soft shadows, since they can cause graphic artifacts on the shadows.
Disable in-game FSAA[citation needed]
If you want anti-aliasing, see Anti-aliasing (AA).

Invisible menu text on Windows 10

Change game's language to English[8]
Use compability mode with older version of Windows[citation needed]
If you use DPI scaling in Windows settings, change this option and use custom DPI setting[citation needed]

Slow loading level and aero disabling

Occurs only on Windows Vista and Windows 7 because of the special graphic stack WDDM.
Install game only on Windows XP, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10[citation needed]
Using Windows 8.1 or 10 significantly reduces the launch time of the level; perhaps this is due to improvements in the WDDM graphics stack.[9]

Get ammo from the firearms

You can load ammo into current weapon using similar firearms laying around. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Switch current weapon to Melee mode
  2. Pick up same weapon (with ammo) from the ground
  3. Switch it to Melee mode
  4. Pick up the initial weapon from the ground

When you switch it back to Firing mode, you will see it has Ammo from both weapons, sometimes -- even more than weapon capacity allows. But if you replace the weapon, the extra ammo will be lost, leaving you with regular full magazine.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/4720/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (4720) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
