Sony Music Entertainment, commonly known as Sony Music, is a American multinational music company owns by Sony Music Group, a subsidiary of Sony.
The company was founded as American Record Corporation in 1929 to 1938, which was then renamed to Columbia Records, USA in 1939 following the acquisition by Columbia Broadcasting System up until 1966, where it was renamed to CBS Records. The acquisation by Sony in 1988 led to CBS Records being renamed to Sony Music Entertainment in 1991, and was briefly renamed to Sony BMG Music Entertainment from 2004 until 2008 before reverted back to Sony Music Entertainment.
