Aliens versus Predator 2 is a first person shooter developed by Monolith Productions and released in 2001. The game works well on most modern computers when certain compatibility-options are activated. The game is a sequel to Aliens versus Predator (1999).

Version Differences

The game so far hasn't been released via digital download, but physical copies can still be bought online.

Serial Key

A serial key is not required to install or play the game.

Unofficial fix to remove the stretching when using widescreen-resolutions.

Issues and Fixes

The game won't launch:

If nothing happens when you click the .exe you might have to try using a crack instead and then running the game in Windows 98 compatibility-mode. To do this right-click avp2.exe, click options and go to the compatibility-tab. Check the compatibility-box and choose Windows 98. Also tick Run this program as an administrator.

Graphical Tweaks

Higher/wide-screen resolutions

You can set your resolution by going to autoexec.cfg in the main game directory and changing the following lines: 

SCREENWIDTH
SCREENHEIGHT
GameScreenWidth
GameScreenHeight

And then set the file to read-only. Make sure to set ALL your other options before doing this or the resolution will reset to 640x480 as soon as you enter the graphics menu.
Also keep in mind that the image will be stretched when using widescreen resolutions. To fix this, see below.

Field of View Fix (FOV)

The image is stretched when playing at widescreen-resolutions. Download Avp2 Widescreen Patcher and run the .exe for the aspect ratio you will be using and let it run in the background while you play.

Antialiasing

There is no built-in antialiasing but forcing it through the graphics control panel works.

Anisotropic Filtering

See above. Try forcing it.

V-sync

The FPS seems to be locked to you refresh rate.

Save Game Data

Savegames are located in 

...Fox\Aliens vs. Predator 2\Save\Player_0

Options are saved in autoexec.cfg in the main game folder.

Improvements

Skip Introductions, Cutscenes and Videos

Intro videos can be skipped by clicking on Options in the launcher and ticking Disable Logos.
