'''''Zombie Panic! Source''''' is a multiplayer Half-Life 2 first-person shooter modification that pays homage to the popular Zombie genre of film and games. It is the sequel to the Half-Life modification Zombie Panic!, and is available to download for free.

=== Launch parameters ===
You can launch Zombie Panic! Source with launch parameters - these parameters dictating how certain aspects of the game behaves (outside of gameplay).

To add launch parameters:
* Right click ''Zombie Panic Source'' within [[Steam]] and select ''Properties''
* Select ''Set Launch Options''
* Add your launch parameters and click ''OK''
* Close the properties window and launch the game with the specified launch parameters.

Launch parameters are typically prefixed with
-
(dash), however you can also set console commands by providing the console command with a
+
(plus) prefix.

==== Useful launch parameters ====

{| class="wikitable grid"
! Parameter || Description
|-
|
-autoconfig
|| Restores video and performance settings to default for the current hardware detected. Ignores settings inside any .cfg files until this parameter is removed.
|-
|
-console
|| Starts the game with the developer console enabled.
|-
|
-dxlevel ''xx''
|| Forces the game to launch in a specific DirectX version, where
''xx''
is: 80 (DirectX 8 (buggy, use 81 instead for high performance)), 81 (DirectX 8.1), 90 (DX9 with Shader Model 2), 95 (DX9 with Shader Model 3) and 98 (DX9 on DX10 hardware (SM 4)). Remove this argument after starting CS:S once or it will keep reseting your other settings. The overridden DirectX version will still be saved (mat_dxlevel).
|-
|
-noborder -window
|| Launches the game in a borderless fullscreen window (i.e. very alt-tab friendly). This may result in a minor performance loss. If you experience stuttering, disable Windows Aero.
|-
|
-h ''height'' or -height ''height''
|| Forces the engine to start with resolution set to
height
.
|-
|
-w ''width'' or -width ''width''
|| Forces the engine to start with resolution set to
width
.
|}

=== Console Commands ===
Games running on the source engine can utilize [https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Console_Command_List Source Engine Console Commands] for various tasks. These commands can be saved into
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\SteamID\Zombie Panic Source\autoexec.cfg
to be executed when the game launches.

{| class="wikitable" style="text-align: left;"
! scope="col" | Command || Notes
|-
|
mat_dxlevel ''xx''
|| Same as -dxlevel (above) but doesn't adjust other settings such as resolution.
|-
|
net_graph 1
|| View in-game FPS, ping and more. A higher number (up to 4) shows more advanced information. This can result in a performance loss.
|-
|
cl_showfps 1
|| Shows FPS only. 1 is real-time, 2 is averaged over the past second.
|-
|
rate ''x''
|| Max bytes/sec the host can receive data. A too low value may result in the server starving the client for data it could otherwise have received. A too high value may result in the server overwhelming the client with too much data and packets being lost. For example, if you can download data at 1 megabit/s, ''x'' should be 125000. However do not set higher than the maximum value of 1048576 (just over 8 megabit/s).
|-
|
snd_async_fullyasync 1
|| May help you are experiencing freezes when some sounds that aren't cached are playing. Allows sounds to play when ready if loading it is too slow, instead of freezing the entire game until it is.
|-
|
bind "END" "hud_reloadscheme; snd_restart; record fix; stop"
|| Works around most common bugs that can be encountered TF2 by pressing the ''END''-key (or any other key of your choice) in-game. This will usually fix invisible players, displaced or invisible props, erroneously looping sounds at full volume, the HUD having the wrong team color or being otherwise broken, and more.
|-
|
cl_minmodels 1
|| Will disable server-skins and possibly fixes invisible players.
|-
|
fps_max 59.9
|| If you have vsync enabled and your mouse feels sluggish then enter this into the console on the menu to resolve the issue. This setting cannot be changed while connected to a server. It's a better idea to just disable vsync if you don't mind tearing.

Xpadder is a program used to map any buttons on a PC controller to emulate Keyboard and Mouse controls. It costs $9.99 USD

== Where to download ==

[http://xpadder.com/ You can download Xpadder from this website.]

[http://majorgeeks.com/Xpadder_Last_freeware_version_d5282.html/ This is the outdated freeware version, for those of you who don't want to pay 10 USD.]

== How to use it ==
Upon opening the application for the first time, everything is probably blank.
To start:
* click on the controller icon in the top left corner and click on 'new'.
* Navigate to 'Sticks', and enable both sticks by calibrating your controller to what it tells you to press on the screen.
* Do the same for Dpad and triggers.
* For 'Buttons', press '''all''' of the buttons on your controller, one by one.
* Save this configuration in your installation folder. You will be able to choose this configuration any time in the future by clicking the controller icon again, clicking on 'open', and navigating to wherever you saved the profile.
* You will see a screen full of blank buttons. Navigate to the menu icon to the right of the controller icon and press 'New'.
* Try pressing different buttons on your controller to see which ones respond by turning green, and map them to certain mouse or keyboard commands by clicking on them.
* You can save your button configurations by clicking on the menu icon and clicking 'save as'. You can do this for as many games as you want and just launch the button configurations by clicking 'open' from the menu icon.
== Tweaks ==
=== Widescreen resolutions and FOV ===
This fix for more resolution options was posted on Widescreen Gaming Forum<ref name="Widescreen Gaming Forum">[https://www.wsgf.org/dr/xiii XIII | Widescreen Gaming Forum], .</ref>
:''
:"'''Warning: This solution requires you to lose all of your profiles and saved games.''' The file that stores your personal FOV settings is compiled and only readable with a hex editor. If anyone wants to try to figure out how to edit the FOV settings in the file, the file is located in <gamedir>\save, and it is the name of your profile with the .pro extension. I've tried to figure it out myself, but the FOV is an eight digit floating point number, and I have no clue how that gets translated to hex.
:
:The solution:
:First, go to <gamedir>\save, and delete everything. Do not back up anything, just lose it all. Now go to <gamedir>\system. Right click on the file DefUser.ini, right click, properties, make sure "Read-only" is unchecked. Now edit it, and find these lines:
:DesiredFOV=85.000000
:DefaultFOV=85.000000
:Change them to set your FOV. I recommend 95 for 16:10 displays and 100 for 16:9 displays.
:
:Now save and close, and edit xiii.ini. Find these lines:
:FullscreenViewportX=1024
:FullscreenViewportY=768
:Change them to set your resolution.
:
:Now launch the game, and create a profile. Your FOV settings will be applied.
:
:The game's aspect ratio automatically matches your resolution. But the wider your aspect ratio, the higher the FOV needs to be to maintain Hor+."''

'''Xbox 360 Controller Emulator''' ('''X360ce''') is a freeware emulator which enables the use of your DirectInput controller (GamePad, Joystick, Wheel) on recent games which only support XInput controllers such as the XBOX 360 controller. This application is Windows only and works on a limited number of games. If your game isn't on the compatibility list you should try the different compatibility modes and add its name here if successful.

The necessary files can be found on the application [http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/ webpage] under the Downloads section.

== Application ==
=== System Requirements ===
Windows XP SP3 and more recent Windows OSs.

=== Installation ===

# Copy xinput1_3.dll, x360ce.exe and x360ce.ini to any folder of your choosing and open the x360ce application.
# Edit the Controller tabs key bindings to your liking. Check the Games Compatibility list and select the correct compatibility mode for your game. Once that's done you can close the application.
# Copy xinput1_3.dll to the game application folder and run the game.
# Everything should be working, some games may show the controller as an XBOX 360 controller.

=== Uninstallation ===

Simply delete xinput1_3.dll from the game folder.

== Games Compatibility ==

For an updated list of games, go [http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/wiki/GameCompatibilityList here] and search for the name of the game. The list itself it's not updated, but the comments are very helpful.
X-COM: UFO Defense is also known as ''UFO: Enemy Unknown'' and ''X-Com: Enemy Unknown''.

== Installing ==
=== Windows ===
The recommended methods are purchase a packaged DOSBox version of the game. It is currently available from Steam, this version is only Windows compatible at the moment, but can be easily ported to other operating systems. It is also possible to install games from disk (or the original files) using DOSBox, although i would recommend a graphical frontend for the tool.
==== Steam Version ====
The game is currently available for sale through Steam. It comes preinstalled with a DosBOX copy. The version as sold will enter full screen mode and has some graphical performance issues due to the settings being scaled wrong.

=== Mac ===
==== Using Windows Steam Version ====
It is recommended you read the recommended settings at the bottom of this article after installing if you experience any difficulties.

# Download the appropriate version of this [http://boxer.washboardabs.net tool].
# You will find the game files at this location:
\Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Steam/steamapps/common/XCom UFO Defense
If you do not have a windows computer to install this on, you can of course use Bootcamp, VMware Fusion or Parallels to install Steam and download the game, otherwise you can attempt to install via WINE, where you would need to install steam and install the game, then copy the game files, but that is beyond the scope of this guide. It is not advisable to run these games in WINe, as DOSBox is not heavily tested for this and it may introduce unexpected errors and break with upgrades.
#* If you are on the computer where you want to create the Mac port of the game, just leave a window witht he folder open, otherwise copy the files to the computer where you'd o want to do so.
# Open Boxer and click on "Import a new game"
# Inside the XCom: UFO Defence folder the is another refolded called "XCOM", drag this folder into the "Drop You're Games Here" window.
# Select SETUP.EXE as your installer.
# Accept all defaults using enter until you are prompted to Relaunch the installer or Finish importing. Press Finish importing.
# The game will important show you you're new Game.
# This Step is optional and may not be required, irt is recommended, and may fix any crashes.
## Right clock on the icon and click Show in Finder.
## In Finder click Show Package Contents.
## Copy "DOSBox Preferences.conf" into the Application bundle.
##* You scan copy the files from the "XCom: UFO Defence" folder and rename the file.
##* Or you can create a new file with that name, using these settings:

== Bugs ==
=== Difficulty Bug ===
The original version of the game has a bug which would run the game at the Beginner difficulty regardless of what the player actually selected. This bug went undetected until before the release of the sequel, at which time it was patched. The complaints regarding the game being too easy even at the highest difficulty setting led to the sequel's difficulty being scaled up so much that it's easiest difficulty was harder than the intended hardest difficulty for this game. The patch is included in all Steam versions of the game.

== Recomended Settings ==
=== DOSBox Settings ===
In order to improve performance in DOSBox, it is recommended you set the following in the dosbox.conf file:

output=opengl
memsize=64
cycles=auto limit 10000

The settings will not be found grouped together, but will each be in a different category throughout the document. Search for the name in order to find the setting to change.

== Running X-COM with UFO Extender plus XcomUtil ==
The [http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=User:Seb76#UFO_Extender UFO Extender] program allows the game to run without DOS or DOSBOX, providing a mouse-resizable window and a smoother-running, more responsive screen than DOSBOX. It also supports the use of higher-quality .mp3 music from the Playstation release, and keyboard shortcuts. [http://www.bladefirelight.com/ XcomUtil] provides bug fixes, including for the disjointed-base bug, and additional ease-of-use features like the automatic re-equipping of soldiers before a mission and appending rank and stat info to soldier names.

Both also offer many gameplay modifications such as enhanced weaponry, different starting-base layouts, and randomized terrain and UFO layouts. These are all optional and turned off by default.

The programs are confirmed to run on Windows 7 as well as older operating systems, and with the Steam release.

XcomUtil supports the UFOExtender launcher, but assumes the use of DOS or DOSBOX at several points in the installation process, so specific steps are required to run them simultaneously:

# Install X-COM. If installing from CD, make sure it is a full installation.
# Download the UFO Extender loader "UFOLoader.zip", available at [http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=File:UFOLoader.zip this Ufopaedia page], and extract it directly to the folder "XCOM", which is inside the base install folder (e.g. "Xcom UFO Defense") in distributions with DOSBOX.
# In the "XCOM" folder open the file "UFOExtender.ini" with Notepad, find the line "D3D=0" and change it to "D3D=1" and change the value of "D3D Windowed" from 0 to 1. Save and close the modified .ini file.
#*On Windows 7 and Vista, you'll only be able to run this mod combo in a window. It will launch work once in fullscreen, and not again subsequently. (The window can be maximized though.)
#*If you do not wish to install XcomUtil as well, stop here, and you may run the game by launching "UFOLoader.exe" in the "XCOM" folder.
# Download the XcomUtil install file, currently "XcomUtil 9.7 Beta-442.exe", available at the downloads page at [http://www.bladefirelight.com/ Bladefirelight.com]. Run this file, again directly selecting the "XCOM" folder as the install location. If unavailable, use [http://www.somesingawful.com/supsuper/stuff/XcomUtil%209.7%20Beta-442.zip this .zip file] for build 442, extract it into the XCOM folder, and then run XcuSetup.bat.
# XcomUtil setup should now be running in a cmd.exe window. If the cmd.exe screen appears blank, right-click on its title bar and select Properties. Under the Colors tab set "Screen Text" to a contrasting color from "Screen Background".
# When asked if you wish to configure XcomUtil now, enter "yes" and allow the program to run.
#*XcomUtil setup may also ask Steam users if they wish to use XcomUtil when X-COM is launched from Steam. However, launching from within Steam will still launch DOSBOX instead of the UFO Extender launcher, so select "no". You cannot launch with UFO Extender from Steam's menu.
# On the screen that says "Windows 7/Vista has Issues displaying DOS/Win. On startup you get a blank screen..." enter "no" to decline installing the patch suggested.
# Enter "yes" when asked if you wish to enable the use of UFO Extender when you launch the game.
# Continue answering the rest of the prompts with the options you prefer. If you do not wish to change gameplay, you can still enable the re-equipping of soldiers before each battle with their last set of items, and the automatic addition of useful information to soldier name strings after battles. Info on all the options can be found in the "XcomUtil.txt" file in the "XComUtil" folder.
# If you want to change these options, run setup again by launching "XcuSetup.bat" in the "XCOM" folder. You can also do this after starting a game.
# You may now launch the game by running "RunXCom.bat" (not "XCOM.bat") in the "XCOM" folder.
#*If you are running Steam do not launch X-COM directly from its menu.
#*Do not run the file "xcomutil.exe" to launch the game. It will not work outside DOS or DOSBOX. Xcomutil.exe simply provides a launch menu, with options for running the Xcomutil setup and the X-COM sound programs.
# Set additional UFO Extender options as you see fit by altering UFOextender.ini with Notepad. Information can be found [http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=User:Seb76#UFO_Extender here]. In the provided download, all options are off by default, including enhancements that do not affect gameplay. You may enable Geoscape and Battlescape keyboard shortcuts and the stat display on the equip screen by setting the appropriate "Apply" values from 0 to 1, and set the keyboard shortcuts.
# To use the enhanced music from the Playstation version of the game, download the appropriate .mp3 files found [http://www.xcomufo.com/x1music.html here] (right-click and select to save the links). Place them together in a new folder inside your XCOM folder. Name the new folder "mp3". Open "UFOExtender.ini" with Notepad and under the "Music" heading set "Apply" from 0 to 1. Set the track names to match those in the new mp3 folder. The .ini file should appear similar to the excerpt below. The Playstation files include additional Geoscape music; you may choose to set up different tracks:
== Windows 7 and Vista compatibility ==
The game shows wrong colors on some Windows 7 and Vista machines. There is an unofficial fix for this problem. It can be found here along with detailed instructions. Note you must create a forum ID in order to download the fix:

[http://forum.team17.com/showthread.php?threadid=38883 Unofficial Fix for Windows 7 and Windows Vista]

A workaround for this Windows 7 and Vista palette error is killing the explorer.exe process, then starting the game.

However, there are more compatibility issues. On some machines, the game crashes with a "Worms World Party has stopped working" error message. There is no known fix for this problem.

World of Warcraft is a game that is very well supported by Blizzard Entertainment. Even in its release in 2004, it had relatively simple graphics that ran on low hardware requirements for the time. Total game size has just been optimized, and a fresh install is just under 25GB. However, there are some very simple graphical tweaks that can make the game load much faster.

== Graphical Tweaks ==
=== Multimonitor Support ===
On a multi-monitor display, depending on which monitor the window is initially launched in before setting Windowed (Fullscreen) mode, it is possible to run two or more windowed fullscreen instances of World of Warcraft (or other compatible games, like Starcraft II) on the other monitor(s).
=== Denser Foliage and Clutter ===
It is possible to increase the foliage/clutter density of the game further than the slider allows using this command:

/console groundEffectDensity 256

If performance is no longer at an acceptable level, this change can be reverted by adjusting the ground effect density slider in the graphics options.
=== Higher Maximum Graphic Settings ===
It is possible to increase the various graphical settings of the game further than the slider allows using these commands:

/console farclip 777

/console horizonfarclip 2112

/console groundeffectdensity 256

/console groundeffectdist 140

/console smallcull 0

/console skycloudlod 3

/console characterambient

A comparison of each setting is shown in this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrJjwY59jts video].

=== Maximum Camera Zoom ===
The maximum distance you can zoom the camera away from the character can be increased using this command:
=== Windowed mode on Mac ===
For a long time there was a bug where the player was unable to drag the screen after having gone into windowed mode which meant that the player couldn't decide on the screen size except for the defaults. In later patches this was fixed but in some rare cases the issue still persists. Follow these steps if you're still having the problem:

- Open World of Warcraft

- Disable all add-ons at the character screen

- Enter the game

- Enter windowed mode (command+m or command+enter)

- Force quit the game

- Relaunch it as normal

This should fix it, if not just temporarily.

== Performance Improvements ==
=== DirectX 11 Rendering ===
One of the new features in Cataclysm is WoW's ability to render using the DirectX 11 API. DirectX 11 can significantly boost performance in some scenarios (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3229374095) This API can be enabled on systems running a DirectX 10, 10.1, or 11-compliant graphics card and operating system. This includes all graphics cards from the nVidia GeForce 8000-series and up, and all ATI cards from the Radeon HD 2000-series and up; some Intel chips support this as well, but the differences are far more subtle and there is a higher risk for issues to crop up.

In addition to just having the right GPU, you must also have an OS that supports DirectX 10/11. For full DirectX 11 rendering, you need Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 or Windows 7 of any flavor. Windows Vista without Service Pack 2 will be able to run the API still, but it will only use shader model 4.0 (DX10).

This option can be enabled by going to Options, navigating to the Advanced tab and then changing the graphics API to DirectX 11.

=== Texture Cache Size ''(DirectX 9 ONLY)'' ===

gxTextureCacheSize is a CVar that affects the D3D9 API; if you're already using DirectX 10/11 mode, this CVar will not have any affect. This variable decides how much memory - in megabytes - to use for caching textures. The default value is '0', meaning the game will dynamically adjust the cache. Some players have found better performance - particularly with rapid camera movements - by manually selecting a value for this. As a general rule of thumb, ~70-75% of your VRAM tends to be the best value. For example, if you have a 1.5 GB GTX 480, a good value to try would be 1152 MB. The syntax would look like this:

SET gxTextureCacheSize "1152"

For quick reference, these are 75% values. Feel free to use more or less as depending on specific configuration settings.

* 128 MB: 96
* 256 MB: 192
* 384 MB: 288
* 512 MB: 384
* 768 MB: 576
* 896 MB: 672
* 1 GB: 768
* 1.125 GB: 864
* 1.25 GB: 960
* 1.5 GB: 1152
* 2 GB: 1536

gxTextureCacheSize allows pretty much any whole number, but be sure not to set it too low or too high. If set too low, you will not properly utilize your video memory; if set too high, you'll start using system RAM instead, negatively impacting performance. Values below 32 MB and above 2047 MB always seem to yield terrible performance.

=== SSD ===
If World of Warcraft is installed on an SSD, this will drastically decrease the load times for zoning.

==== Move SSD Cache ====
The World of Warcraft cache folder is required to hold uncompressed files and hotfix data. To save space on the SSD, it is possible to junction link the cache folder to a different drive. This should save approximately 7.5 GB of space on the SSD, although it may incur a minor performance hit.

mklink /j "C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\Cache" "D:\Games\Blizzard Stuff\World of Warcraft\Data\Cache\"

=== Fps performance issues (Mac) ===

A lot of people experience that World of Warcraft runs sluggishly on their older model macs (despite having the required specs). However, there is a way to improve this. Installing a windows partition using bootcamp will greatly increase the fps of the game, despite being the same computer. Personal experience as well as roaming the forums confirms this, here is a quote from a forum MVP answering the question ''Does running WoW in Bootcamp help (fps)'':

''It's better in like 99% cases, even if it runs good in os x it runs better in windows just do to better drivers and direct 3d that's up to date vs GL that's 4 years old. but if performance is good in OS X no real reason to do it. although it's not gonna make crappy hardware less crappy. don't reboot and expect double fps (unless there was a genuine driver bug in os x). expect a somewhat higher fps though, and no stutter bug.''

For more information on how to install a windows partition on your mac see [http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boot_camp_install-setup.pdf this] official apple guide.

=== Sound issue (Mac) ===
This is a known issue that only seems to occur on older Macbooks (PowerBook series, early MacBook series). The problem is that the computer isn't powerful enough to run the game with sound on (my hypothesis anyway) which causes it to distort the sound and make it unbearable to listen too. This happens when the computer gets too hot (macs have a tendency to do that) from running the game because it takes a lot of the computers power to run it. The sound distortion then causes the in-game fps to fall dramatically causing unplayable lag. The only real solution to this problem, that works (experience) is shutting off the sound. Not just the speakers but going into the settings and removing Master volume. This will enable you to play the game without the excessive lag, on an old, although hot, macbook.

== Addons ==
World of Warcraft's UI is developed via LUA scripting, and XML data.

'''AddOns''' are generally self-contained User Interface (UI) modification components. However, some AddOns can be dependent on other AddOns to work, and some AddOns are actually collections of other AddOns. There is no size restriction on AddOns, some can grow to be quite massive.

In plain English, an AddOn is just some files you can put in your game folder that can (theoretically) improve your interaction with the World of Warcraft game (i.e. make it easier to play, or give you more information about what's going on in the game).

Often the name '''modification''' (or "mod" for short) is used interchangeably with AddOn. More specifically, a mod is a third-party AddOn that alters or enhances some aspect of World of Warcraft's interface. Mods can perform a wide variety of tasks, including adding new buttons to the screen, altering the built-in player and party frames. In extreme cases, mods completely supplant the standard WoW [[UI|interface]], usually offering more advanced functionality.

Some mods are standalone, able to run without any additional software. Others are built on libraries such as [[Sea (add-on)|Sea]] or [[Ace (AddOns)|Ace]]. Still others are compilations of many individually-developed mods.

=== Blizzard's AddOn policy ===
With the release of [[Patch 3.1]], [[Blizzard Entertainment]] introduced a new UI AddOn development policy.<ref name="policy">http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/policy/ui.html</ref> Here is a summary below:
# AddOns must be free of charge.
# AddOn code must be completely visible.
# AddOns must not negatively impact World of Warcraft realms or other players.
# AddOns may not include advertisements.
# AddOns may not solicit donations.
# AddOns must not contain offensive or objectionable material.
# AddOns must abide by World of Warcraft ToU and EULA.
# Blizzard Entertainment has the right to disable AddOn functionality as it sees fit.

It isn't exactly clear how Blizzard plans to enforce this policy, but developers should follow the policy or risk some sort of exclusion of their AddOns from the game. The following sentence ends the introductory paragraph of the policy: "failure to abide by them may result in measures up to and including taking formal legal action."<ref name="policy"/>

=== Creating an AddOn ===
First of all, you need to create a new directory in Interface\AddOns. The name of this directory is kind of important, as it is what other AddOns use to refer to your AddOn (in dependencies). Therefore, using version numbers in your AddOn directory name can be a bad idea; you will run the risk of having other AddOns "break" when you change the version. This will probably lead to people either not depending on your AddOn or, worse, that they'll keep using an old version.

Major version numbers as part of AddOn directory names might work, though.

Look at [[Getting started with writing addons]] to get a better idea of the structure of an addon.

=== Toc files ===
'''.toc''' is short for "table of contents".

A functioning AddOn will need a file named
<YourAddOnDirectoryName>.toc
in "
Interface\AddOns\YourAddOnDirectoryName\
".

This file needs to have two things - an interface keyword with a correct interface number, and the name(s) of one or more files to load. However, Blizzard asks that you include at least these five client recognized tag lines:

## Interface: {{API_LatestInterface}}
## Title: My Add On
## Version: 1.0.0
## Notes: A short description of my AddOn
## Author: Your name or memorable descriptor (e.g. LuckyLuke)

* Tip: Make sure you do not have any extra spaces at the end of the line with the filename specified. If you do, the extra space is taken as part of the filename and will cause your AddOn to silently fail to load.

* Tip: The .toc file is not reloaded when you reload the user interface; if you make changes to it, you will need to quit all the way to the desktop before they take effect.

To get the latest interface number, see [[Getting the current interface number]]. The number in the .toc file must match the current build or the add on will not be loaded/active, unless the user has explicitly told WoW to load out-of-date Addons. If the .toc file declares an interface number prior to 2.0.0 (i.e. pre-[[The Burning Crusade]]), the AddOn can not be loaded, regardless of the load out of date AddOns setting.

* '''{{API_LatestInterface}} is the current interface number.'''

=== Bindings.xml ===
If you include a [[Bindings.xml]] file, it does not have to be included in your .toc list of files to load - WoW loads this file automatically. This file is used to set key bindings specific to the AddOn.

=== Other keywords in the toc file ===
Please check out [[The TOC Format]] for a more detailed list.

=== Troubleshooting an AddOn ===
As of [[Patch 2.3]], if you get a message "Interface action failed because of an AddOn", this means that an AddOn interfered with the Blizzard UI in some way. To diagnose this, enter the following into chat "/console taintLog 1" and restart the game and try to reproduce it. If you reproduce it, you can quit the game and search through the file Logs\taint.log for the word "blocked" and mail the log to the author of the AddOn listed there. Once you have done this you can turn off logging by entering the following into chat "/console taintLog 0"
== Issues & Fixes ==
=== Multiple monitors issue ===
When running the game (on Steam) while using more than one monitor the screen of the game flashes multiple times before crashing or closing the game using the task manager.

*Since the in-game options doesn't give a possibility to run the game windowed the only way to run it so is to force it through the 'Properties' menu. For exmaple disabling desktop themes and desktop compositsion.

=== Blue Screen of Death ===
World of Goo is known to cause a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Screen_of_Death Blue Screen of Death] for some people on start up, usually when the game has finished loading or when the 2D Boy logo appears. In most cases, this is due to an incompatibility with some newer NVIDIA drivers. Fortunately, there are two known ways this can be fixed.

*If you've bought World of Goo outside of Steam, try installing it through the official site or Humble Bundle (or wherever you bought it from) without using Steam. This will however mean you will not be able to use Steam achievements or some other Steam functions.
*If the first solution did not work, or you want to continue using World of Goo through Steam, try installing an older NVIDIA driver [http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk here], or [http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_rollback.html here] to roll back to a previous driver.
=== Resolution Change ===
[[Image:World_of_Goo_config.jpg|thumb|200px|Config warning: your computer will probably explode.]]World of Goo does not contain an option to change resolution in the game itself. To do so you must edit the config file manually. Firstly locate the
config.txt
file. This is normally located in the directory:

* Windows:
C:\Program Files\WorldOfGoo\properties\config.txt

* Steam:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\world of goo\properties\config.txt

Within this text file, replace the values for "screen_width" and "screen_height" with your desired screen resolution values, and the game should run at this resolution.
'''Features:'''
*Profiles - View your profiles, view your tower image and stats, backup and restore your profile, move it between machines, and upload to your tower on this website.
*Addins - Install and uninstall mods and new levels within the game.
*Options - Configure certain aspects of the game that you can't easily do otherwise - for example changing resolution or removing the loading screen video.
'''''Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory''''' (Most commonly referred to as '''ET''') is a free and open-source multiplayer first person shooter game. It is set in World War II, and its objective-style gameplay is heavily based on teamwork between the five player classes. Unlike originally planned, it was released for free in 2003 because of problems with the development of the single player portion of the game. The free release of the game was followed by several source releases: the source code for the game logic in 2004 which spawned a wide variety of mods, the map source files for the official maps in 2008 and finally the source code for the whole game and engine in 2010. The public play community of the game is still active worldwide, and the competitive community is fairly active in Europe.
== How to get ET ==
* Official Splash Damage site only has [http://www.splashdamage.com/content/wolfenstein-enemy-territory-barracks mirrored download links].
* [http://etui.kashui.fr Enemy Territory Ultimate Installer] simplifies the installation of the game. While the official download requires you to download the full game and then apply two different patches, ETUI bundles them all to a one installer that includes the most popular mods and unofficial maps. Recommended for new players.

== Configuration ==
To edit your configuration, you can either use the options provided by the user interface in-game, or edit your config files outside the game.

While using the in-game options is much easier, there are many options that cannot be fully edited through the user interface. For example, due to the age of the game, widescreen resolutions have to be set through the in-game console or the config files.

==== Configuration files ====
ET saves its settings in the
etconfig.cfg
file which is located:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Enemy Territory\etmain\profiles\profilename\

This file can be overridden, and it is advisable to do so. To do so, copy the file to your etmain folder (etpro folder if running etpro) and rename it to
autoexec.cfg
. ET will automatically look for this file in the etmain/etpro folder and execute it when starting up the game. To modify your config file, either edit the pre-existing console-variables ('''cvar'''s) within the file or add a new line and enter a cvar and its value.

::Example: '''set cg_drawfps 1''' (enables the fps counter)

===== Resolution =====
:;r_mode "value"
::This command sets the screen resolution according to one of the values in the [http://paste.pocoo.org/show/556052/ modelist].

:;r_customwidth "width" & r_customheight "height"
::In case '''r_mode''' is set to '''-1''', these set the custom resolution. '''Note:''' With r_mode set as -1, ET allows for widescreen resolutions.

===== Quick high quality config =====
Copy and paste to your config file
set r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR" ''//texture filtering, NEAREST for pixelated, LINEAR for smooth''
set r_picmip "0" ''//texture detail level, 0 = best 3 = worst''
set r_fastsky "0" ''//draw the sky like the map developer intended''
set r_drawSun "1" ''//draw the sun''
set r_foliage "1" ''//draw the grass'' (usually found as cheat protected, making it server-side)
set r_lodbias "0" ''//geometric detail level, 0 = best, 2 = worst''

set cg_atmosphericeffects "1" ''//enables rain and snow in maps that feature them''
set cg_shadows "1" ''//enables player shadows''
set cg_marks "1" ''//enables marks on surfaces made by projectiles or explosions''

set r_dynamiclight "1"
set r_flares "1"

set r_mode "-1"
set r_customwidth "'''your_screen_width_here'''"
set r_customheight "'''your_screen_height_here'''"

===== Quick high FPS config =====
Copy and paste to your config file
set r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST" ''//texture filtering, NEAREST for pixelated, LINEAR for smooth''
set r_picmip "2" ''//texture detail level, 0 = best 2, = worst''
set r_fastsky "1" ''//draw a black sky without any texture''
set r_drawSun "0" ''//don't draw the sun''
set r_foliage "0" ''//don't draw the grass''
set r_lodbias "2" ''//geometric detail level, 0 = best, 2 = worst''

set cg_atmosphericeffects "0" ''//disables rain and snow in maps that feature them''
set cg_shadows "0" ''//disables player shadows''
set cg_marks "0" ''//disables marks on surfaces made by projectiles or explosions''

set r_dynamiclight "0"
set r_flares "0"

set r_mode "-1"
set r_customwidth "'''your_screen_width_here'''"
set r_customheight "'''your_screen_height_here'''"

==== Console Variables ====
The in-game console can be brought up with the '''tilde''' (~) key. For some keyboard mappings, it's the '''section sign''' (§) key.
In order to enter commands or variables to the console in-game, you must enter the '''slash''' character (/) before every command. While in the game menu (not connected to a server),
the slash key is not required.

:;vid_restart
::Reloads the map and restarts the graphics renderer. Some changes, such as resolution change, requires the graphic renderer to restart.

:;connect "serverip"
::Connect to a server ip through the console. For passworded servers, add ''';password "password"'''.
::Example: ''connect 127.0.0.1;password foobar''

:;bind "key" "action"
::Maps a key to an action. For example, ''bind mouse1 +attack'' makes the player shoot when clicking the left mouse button.

:;unbind "key"
::Unmaps a key. For example, 'unbind mouse1' makes the player do nothing when clicking the left mouse button.

:;quit
::Shut down the game

==== Scripting ====

You can define your own variables to perform certain actions and multiple actions at once. Here is an example of a script which changes your class and cycles through that class's weapons without having to open the Limbo menu.

bind F5 "vstr class_engy" // Engineer
bind F6 "vstr class_med" // Medic
bind F7 "vstr class_fo" // Field Ops
bind F8 "vstr class_sold" // Soldier
bind F9 "vstr class_cov" // Covert Ops

seta class_fo "class f 1; play sound/chat/axis/64a; echo ^7Field Ops - SMG"

seta class_med "class m 1; play sound/chat/axis/62a; echo ^7Medic - SMG"

seta class_engy "vstr engy_smg"
seta engy_smg "class e 1; play sound/chat/axis/63a; echo ^7Engineer - SMG; seta class_engy vstr engy_ns"
seta engy_ns "class e 2; echo ^7Engineer - Rifle; seta class_engy vstr engy_smg"

seta class_sold "vstr sold_panz"
seta sold_panz "class s 4; play sound/chat/axis/61a; echo ^7Soldier - Panzer; seta class_sold vstr sold_mg"
seta sold_mg "class s 2; echo ^7Soldier - Machine Gun; seta class_sold vstr sold_mort"
seta sold_mort "class s 5; echo ^7Soldier - Mortar; seta class_sold vstr sold_panz"

seta class_cov "vstr cov_sniper"
seta cov_sniper "class c 3; play sound/chat/axis/65a; echo ^7Covert Ops - Sniper; seta class_cov vstr cov_sten"
seta cov_sten "class c 1; echo ^7Covert Ops - Sten; seta class_cov vstr cov_sniper"

== Issues and Fixes ==
=== ET crashes upon connecting to a server ===
If you're running '''Mumble''', make sure the overlay option is disabled in the configuration.

=== Server has maps you don't have, but you can't download them. ===
Enter '''cl_allowdownload 1;vid_restart;reconnect''' to the console.
* If this doesn't help, google the missing .pk3 files (maps) and download them to your Enemy Territory/etmain folder.

=== Kicked for excess flood ===
You have been spamming the chat. Just reconnect, and you'll be fine.

=== This server is for low pings only ===
If a server has sv_maxPing setting set low enough, you may sometimes be kicked upon connecting. Try to reconnect, you usually get through.

=== Invalid Pb key and other Punkbuster problems ===
Evenbalance stopped supporting Punkbuster for ET in October 2011. Thus, new etkeys will not be generated by the game itself, and new players may find they cannot connect to servers running Punkbuster due to this.
There is an unofficial solution at [http://etkey.org/ etkey.org]. They offer an installer that will install the most recent Punkbuster version and generate a new etkey for you.
However, keep in mind the installer is in no way supported by any official entity, and therefore should be regarded with healthy skepticism.

== Tricks ==
:; To minimize the game:
:: [1] Press '''right ctrl'''+'''right shift'''+'''esc''' [2] Right-click ''Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory'' in the ''Applications'' tab and click ''Minimize''.
:: There are some tools for easier minimizing available that can be found by googling "enemy territory minimizer".

:; Run a mod straight from the executable
:: [1] Right-click ET.exe and select ''Create shortcut'' [2] Right-click the shortcut and select ''Properties'' [3] To the end of the '''Target''' field, add '''+set fs_game your_chosen_mod_here'''
:: Example target field in the shortcut when running ETPro mod:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Enemy Territory\ET.exe +set fs_game etpro

Wine is a free and open source software application that aims to allow computer programs written for [[Windows (Operating System)|Windows]] to run on Unix-like operating systems.

== Difference between emulation and wine ==
Wine does not stand for "Windows Emulator", it specifically stands for "Wine is not an Emulator"

An emulator slows execution by emulating hardware with software, wine creates duplicate libraries which link through to native functions in your operating system of choice.

When a game asks [[DirectX]] to render a circle, the function it is accessing is actually a similarly named Wine function. This function then tells [[OpenGL]] to render a circle. This overhead is minimal, and is often offset by alternative operating systems not requiring anti-virus programs or firewalls, and their lesser bloat.

== Mac usage ==
Mac users can download and install Wine using [http://www.macports.org/ MacPorts].

A detailed tutorial for Mac download, installation and usage can be found at [http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ davidbaumgold.com].

=== GUI applications ===
There are also GUI applications for those who do not want to get into the nitty-gritty of terminal-based computing:
* '''[http://wineskin.doh123.com/ {{Anchor|Wineskin}}]''' is an easy to use application, that created applications with simple a simple installer for Windows programs. Most, if not all, gamers can get away with simply using Wineskin.

== Tutorial ==
This is a beginners guide on getting Windows programs to run in Wine, some games may require manual compilation or other tweaks.

The techniques listed here are designed for [[GNU/Linux|Linux]], but other operating systems such as [[Mac OS X (Operating System)|Mac OS X]] can implement them in much the same way.

Note that several programs can be installed and run with tools such as [http://www.playonlinux.com PlayOnLinux], but this tutorial will teach you to do things manually, which comes in handy if the tools do not support a game, or do not work properly.

=== Linux installation ===
While most Linux distributions come with a version of Wine, more often than not you'll want to use a bleeding edge version to get newer games working.

You can [http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine/files/Source/ download the source code] and compile it yourself, or [http://www.playonlinux.com/wine/binaries/ download a pre-compiled version] from PlayOnLinux. Unless specifically stated otherwise, you should use a 32-bit version of wine.

=== Starter script ===
The following script can be used as a base to launch windows applications in wine.

#!/bin/bash

PATH="/home/$USER/wine/versions/1.3.24/bin:$PATH"
# This line prefixes a directory to your $PATH. Basically, when you run a command like "wine"
# it will look in that folder to run it. This lets you use different wine versions for different games.
# Replace the directory with whatever is the location of your wine version's binary files

export WINEPREFIX="/home/$USER/wine/prefixes/mygame"
# Every prefix contains it's own settings, it's own installed programs, and it's own "Hard drive"
# This allows you to install different games with widely ranging settings, without messing up other ones.

export WINEDEBUG="-all"
# This option should be disabled during install, or debugging. It stops wine from outputting errors, which
# can increase performance as there are often large amounts of data it attempts to output.

cd "$WINEPREFIX/drive_c/Program Files/mygame"
# Change to the directory your game is installed in

wine mygame.exe
# And run it in wine

# Other things you may want to keep in the file for convenience

#winecfg
# This allows you to configure the prefix, set up video settings, audio settings, and other options

#wineserver -k
# This will terminate all processes on the wineprefix, nice for stopping uncooperative windows programs.

#winetricks
# Winetricks is used for many tweaks to wine, which you will probably be using for some of the games you install.

Make sure to make the script executable before you try to run it:

$ chmod +x script

=== Tweaks ===
Several tweaks to wine can provide functionality ranging from the .NET framework to Internet Explorer.

==== Wine versions ====
A list of precompiled versions of Wine is available at [http://www.playonlinux.com/wine/binaries/ PlayOnLinux]

Later versions are supposed to be "Unstable" - however, later versions are usually required to get newer games to work.

If a game doesn't work with a specific version of Wine, try a different one.

==== Winecfg ====
This is the default wine configuration tool, and allows you to change options ranging from the version of Windows, to the graphical capabilities, to the virtual hard drives in use by the prefix.

The tool can be accessed with the command:

$ winecfg

==== Winetricks ====
Winetricks is a script that automatically downloads, installs, and configures many tools for Wine. It also contains scripts to automatically install games.

Installation instructions can be found at [http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks the wine wiki].

Use is very simple.

winetricks -h # Help menu
winetricks ie6 # Installs internet explorer 6
winetricks mwo=force # Forces mouse warp (For first person shooters where the mouse escapes the window)
winetricks vcrun2010 # Installs Visual C++ 2010 libraries
winetricks dotnet35 # Installs .NET 3.5

==== Manual compilation ====
The most advanced tweak is to [http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine/files/Source/ manually download the source code], patch it, and compile it.

This last-ditch-effort allows you to run games that simply don't work with wine without alterations to the source code.

Compilation takes quite a while, and is very complicated, so I will only make one alteration to the [http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/installing-wine-source pre-existing tutorials].

When you run the configure script, give it a prefix, that way it will be compiled to it's own folder, ready to be used in the script above.

$ ./configure --prefix=/home/$USER/wine/versions/custombuild

[[Image:VistaCompatibilityMode.png|thumb|right|Windows Vista Compatibility Settings]]
Windows Vista, 7 and XP sometimes have trouble running older games. Luckily, there is an option within the properties panel which can help rectify this called "Compatibility Mode".

To change the compatibility settings simply right-click your .EXE file that runs your game and choose "Compatibility" from the menu.

The [[Color Fixes For Older Games]] article may also be relevant when running older games.

Some old games may not run due to missing .DLL files. The [[DirectX#Old Games on Windows Vista.2FWindows 7 Fix|Old Games on Windows Vista/Windows 7 Fix]] may help with that.

== Compatibility Mode ==
There are a maximum ten different modes you can choose to run your game under. It is recommended to choose the mode for which your game was originally released for.

These are:
# Windows 95
# Windows 98/Windows ME
# Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)
# Windows 2000
# Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
# Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)
# Windows Vista
# Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
# Windows Vista (Service Pack 3)

== Settings ==
=== Run in 256 Colours ===
Choose this for running 8-bit games.
=== Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution ===
This reduces the number of pixels on screen to 640x480.
=== Disable Visual Themes ===
Stops visual themes built in to the operating system from affecting the game.

=== Disable Desktop Composition ===
Disables Aero, the default theme and and graphical user interface.
=== Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings ===
This stops large monitors from increasing the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dots_per_inch DPI (dots per inch)] to a size too large.

== Privilege Level ==
This setting makes the game run as if the user account was an administrator, which is required for some games.

Widescreen resolutions are resolutions that are of a 16:9 (more common) or 16:10 (slightly less common). The majority of computer monitors and TV's produced today are widescreen, and thus feature a native widescreen resolution. Widescreen resolutions can cause problems with older games that were built for a 4:3 screen, resulting in either a stretched screen or black bars of unused screen space. Most games today will feature built in support for widescreen resolutions, while some games may require tweaking to force such a resolution.

'''Common 16:9 resolutions include:'''
* 2048x1152

=== Windows XP Unsupported ===
The minimum requirements specify that Windows Vista or 7 is required for the game. However, the game will install on Windows XP machines, and is playable. '''USES GFWL'''

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II was released in February 2009 and was developed by [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relic_Entertainment Relic Enterainment]. The game uses an updated version of the Essence Engine which [[Company of Heroes]] uses. It is the sequel to [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War]] and it's standalone expansions [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Winter Assault|Winter Assault]], [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade|Dark Crusade]] and [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm|Soulstorm]]. The game has two expansions of its own; the standalone expansions [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising|Chaos Rising]] and [[Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution|Retribution]].

== Version Differences ==
=== Best Version ===
It is important to note that after the release of Dawn of War II two expansions were released - Chaos Rising and Retribution. Both expansions are stand alone titles and as such do not require you own Dawn of War II to play. Unlike with the previous game and Dark Crusade/Soulstorm, you are not penalised for not buying the previous expansions with restriction to what races to play; as such you can simply purchase Retribution and gain the Retribution campaign and all 6 races available for play in multiplayer.

Due to this, which version you go for depends on what you want from the game. If you want the multiplayer aspect of Dawn of War II, buy Retribution as it is the only one of the three which has a multiplayer community (the past expansions have been abandoned in favour of Retribution). However you will miss out on arguably the two better single player campaigns; those of the base game and Chaos Rising, so if you want to play the game solely for the single player and/or offline play, buy the Gold Edition which contains the base game and Chaos Rising. If you want both the multiplayer and the single player, buy the Dawn of War II Complete Edition which includes the base game, Chaos Rising and Retribution.

== Pagefile ==
Dawn of War II will not run unless you have a pagefile of at least 1.5GB in size.

== Issues and Fixes ==

=== Mac issues ===
While Warcraft 3 works fine with most new Macbooks a lot of older ones (Powerbooks and early generation MacBook pros around 2006) can be very deceptive. A lot of them will be able to run the game until too many units are spawned in a game, which will cause the computer to freeze completely forcing the user to shut the computer down. Other than that a lot of the older macs get error messages quite often causing disturbance in gameplay. There are some rather difficult work arounds for some of these issues but the best you can do is installing a windows partition on your mac using bootcamp. This will allow the computer to run as a windows with as much power as the actual mac, enabling it (in some cases) of playing the game.

=== Windows NT Is Not Supported ===

When installing Warcraft III, the installer will contain a warning about Windows NT if you are using Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. These versions of Windows are based on Windows NT, but are compatible with Warcraft III. It is safe to ignore this message.

=== Windows Vista/Windows 7 Compatibility ===

The game will run on Vista and Windows 7, even though it was intended for Windows 98. There might be a few issues with the game, however. If you have any problems, run the game as an administrator (or disable UAC) and run the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode (XP mode has also been known to work).

You may get the following error message in Windows 7 when connecting to Battle.net: "There was an error writing to your hard drive while trying to download a file from Battle.net. You may need to free some space. Please check your hard drive and try again." The game is trying to write to Program Files, but does not have permissions to do so. Run as administrator.

Cinematics may have artifacts or other corruption on Windows 7. Right-click the executable. In the Compatibility tab, check Disable desktop composition and click OK.

=== Wide Screen Support (WINDOWS) ===

As of patch 1.25b, Warcraft III contains native Widescreen support. To change resolutions, simply open the video options. If you do not wish to install the patch, do the following:

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type "regedit"
4. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III\Video
5. Right click and modify "reswidth" and "resheight"
6. Change the "value data" to match the resolution of your monitor (make sure to change the base to decimal)
*ex. 1080P (1920*1080) reswidth = 1920 and resheight = 1080
7. Restart Warcraft 3
8. Have Fun

Although Widescreen is now supported, it is stretched widescreen, causing the UI to look somewhat misshapen.

==Introduction==
Vertical synchronization is an option used to prevent screen tearing. Screen tearing is a graphical glitch which is perceived as straight vertical lines across the monitor or as if the whole picture is stitched together by two or more separate pictures. This problem exists because the monitor and the graphics adapter normally works independently, so new frames may not be fully drawn when the monitor display them. V-sync makes the graphics adapter wait for the monitor to signal it's ready for the next frame to ensure all displayed frames are always fully drawn. This has the positive side effect of limiting the amount of frames per second the computer has to draw to the monitor refresh rate (the amount of frames per second the monitor is able to display) which saves resources. Unfortunately V-sync can also increase input lag.

== Properties ==

=== Benefits ===
* Eliminates tearing by waiting for the monitor to signal it's ready for the next frame.
* Lower power consumption (and therefore heat and noise) by limiting FPS to what the monitor is able to display.

=== Disadvantages ===
* Introduce extra input lag. Commonly experienced as "mouse lag".
* May decrease performance if FPS falls below the monitor refresh rate.

=== Limitations ===
* Only available in fullscreen exclusive mode (a borderless fullscreen window does not qualify).
* Not to be used when benchmarking since the FPS will be capped at the monitors refresh rate.

== So what's the best option? ==
There is none and results will vary between different games, systems and people. If you're bothered by tearing or want the best visual quality, enable V-sync. If you're bothered by input lag or have performance problems, disable V-sync. If you're playing first-person shooters competitively, always disable.

Note that V-sync is not a FPS limit. If you only want to limit FPS drawn, for example to minimize heat and fan noise, but is not bothered by tearing and don't want to risk input lag, simply limit your FPS to that of your monitors refresh rate or close to it. An FPS limit is often an option available as an in-game console command or similar.
== Patches ==
=== Unofficial Patch ===
The fan-made Unofficial Patch is essential for a bug free experience.

The Unofficial Patch is available in two flavors: Basic and Plus. The Basic version consists of bugfixes that do not dramatically alter Troika's vision for the game. The Plus version makes more significant changes including the reintroduction of cut content and numerous other improvements that go above and beyond what the developers may have intended.

'''NOTE:''' Due to it's regular update schedule, not all versions of the Unofficial Patch will be compatible with all mods.
==== Using Unofficial Patches with Steam Version ====

[http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2025381 Original info from geronimo789 on Steam Forums]

Expanded upon by Reddit user [http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/s8kci/did_you_even_look/c4c41ow filthster]

# Install the game from Steam as you would any other game.
# Run the game once. It's fine if it crashes (this is where an install with a 64 bit OS is likely to give a memory error).
# Right click on the game entry in Steam, go to properties, and disable Steam Community In-Game and Automatic Updates.
# Download the unofficial patch above (the latest version is 8.1)
# Run the executable you've downloaded. Depending on your security settings, you may be required to run as an administrator. When the patch prompts you for an installation folder, point it here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Vampire the masquerade - bloodlines\

# You will be asked whether you want the basic or plus patch. The basic patch focuses primarily on bug fixes and some additions to the original game that were disabled in the vanilla installation, but are not game changing. The plus patch adds numerous other tweaks and changes for improving the game.
# After the Unofficial Patch is installed you will be prompted to run ResPatch which will allow the game to support widescreen monitors in a variety of aspect ratios. It will ask you for the default folder and again point it here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Vampire the masquerade - bloodlines\
From there simply select your aspect ratio and click "Patch It" and the program will adjust the in-game resolution options and FOV for you. Click quit and you are done. Should you need to adjust these settings in the future you can find the ResPatch executable here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Vampire the masquerade - bloodlines\Extras\ResPatch.exe

You're done. Go ahead and run the game. It is normal for the opening cinematics to be broken at this point. Should you want to re-enable them, right click vampire.exe in the default folder and check "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition." If their absence doesn't bother you just press ESC or click until the main menu appears.

'''Note:''' Steam will re-enable the automatic updates each time you play the game. This is frustrating, but unfortunately the only solution I have found is go back into the game's properties in Steam and manually disable them each time you exit the game. I do not know if this problem is universal.

=== True Patch ===
An alternate to the "Unofficial patch" the "true patch" is a purist patch, meaning that it only makes bugfixes and tries to preserve an experience as close as possible to the original game. It is effectively complete (has fixed practically all possible bugs that can be fixed), so users will not need to download a new version in the near future.
=== Field of Vision Fix (FOV) ===
Unreal Tournament 3 supports an FOV view slider in the options menu, however the slider moves to a maximum of 100 which is roughly correct for 16:10 displays. As described in [http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/unreal-tournament-3 Widescreen Gaming Forum's article], a custom mutator, FreeFOV must be used to increase the FOV further for 16:9 displays.

=== Multimonitor Support ===
The game is compatible with AMD/ATI's Eyefinity solution and NVIDIA's Vision Surround solution although the HUD elements are enlarged and disproportional. Increasing the FOV can help with multimonitor displays but the weapon view models and HUD elements get in the way. [http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/unreal-tournament-3 Widescreen Gaming Forum's article] also has an FOV fix for multimonitor displays as well as more information.

=== Anti-Aliasing ===
Unreal Tournament 3 does not natively support anti-aliasing and must be forced through AMD/ATI or NVIDIA driver settings.

=== Anisotropic Filtering ===
Unreal Tournament 3 does not have an anisotropic filtering option, it's changed through the "Texture Quality" option. Anisotropic filtering can be forced through AMD/ATI or NVIDIA driver settings.

== Mods ==
Various modifications, custom content such as characters, maps, mutators, and total-conversion mods can be downloaded and installed for Unreal Tournament 3.
=== Where to Download ===
Mods can be easily found through quick Google searches; there are many fan sites dedicated to Unreal Tournament 3 modding with the most popular being [http://www.beyondunreal.com/ Beyond Unreal] or [http://forums.epicgames.com/forums/335-User-Maps-amp-Mods Epic Games Official Forums]. [http://forums.epicgames.com/forums/335-User-Maps-amp-Mods Epic Games Official Forums] have a forum category for custom maps and mods. An [http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/718438-Grand-Prize-Winners-in-the-1-Million-Intel-Make-Something-Unreal-Contest!
* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/chaosut2evolution ChaosUT2: Evolution] is a continuation of Chaos mod series, released for many different FPS games. It rehashes the regular gameplay extensively, adding lots of unique weaponry, gameplay mechanics and completely new game modes. Let it just be said that it features a gun capable of launching miniscule black holes.

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/killing-floor Killing Floor] is a squad-based zombie game. A total conversion of regular UT2004, it features frantic wave-based survival mode, realistic weaponry and plenty of target practice. The mod has moved on to become a [[Killing Floor|stand-alone game]], but there is still a community of dedicated players of the UT2004 version.

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/red-orchestra Red Orchestra] is another total conversion, this time putting the players in the Russia's side of WWII warzone. The mod aims for high realism and provides the gameplay closer to WWII shooters than original UT2004. Just like Killing Floor, the mod has since become a [[Red Orchestra: Ostfront 1945|stand-alone game]].

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/airbuccaneers AirBuccaneers] adds a completely new game mode which revolves around hot air balloons and cannons. Think pirate battles, but more steam-punk and in the air. Comes with entirely new set of maps and visuals to complete the effect.

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/ballistic-weapons Ballistic Weapons] completely replaces the firearm collection of vanilla UT2004 with over 30 new weapons, as well as accompanying mechanics, such as dual-wielding, dynamic accuracy or fire modes, in order to give the game more tactical style. Several [http://www.moddb.com/mods/ballistic-weapons-and-junk-wars-mods-and-mutators community add-ons] for Ballistic Weapons have been released as well.

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/unwheel UnWheel] builds upon the vehicle mechanics of UT2004 to create a vast assortment of vehicle-based gameplay modes and gear, with the focus on fun driving, whether in race or free roam.

* [http://www.moddb.com/mods/gunreal Gunreal] revamps the UT2004 combat with a new set of game mechanics, weapons and pacing. It features 14 new weapons, weapon shopping system, dynamic inventory, stamina-based movement, dynamic accuracy and ridiculous amounts of gore.
== Issues And Fixes ==

=== Low sound volume on Windows 7 ===

Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound, then pick the Communications Tab, and check "Do Nothing". Sound volume in UT2004 should be back to normal.

=== Troublesome Firewall Authorization in Windows XP SP2 and later ===

Edit the
<gameDir>\System\UT2004.ini
file (or
<gameDir>\System\ut2004-win64.ini
if you're using x64 binaries) and add the following lines at the end of the file:

[FireWall]
IgnoreSP2=1

== Unresolved Issues ==

=== Intermittent system freeze when starting the game on Windows 7 ===

Though the cause of the system freeze has not been strictly identified, following methods have been reported to stop them:

* Make the game always start windowed, then switch to fullscreen with Alt+Enter after reaching main menu.
* Run UT2004 in [[Windows Compatibility Mode|Compatibility Mode]] (Windows XP Service Pack 3).
= Linux =

== Compatibility ==

Unreal Tournament 2004 is capable of running natively both on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Linux, as both versions of the client are by default bundled with the game.

== Installation ==
The process shown below is best used with the Steam version of Unreal Tournament 2004.

=== Step 1: Downloads ===
1. The Steam version of UT2K4: http://store.steampowered.com/app/13230/

2. The latest patch for UT2K4 (3369): http://downloads.unrealadmin.org/UT2004/Patches/Linux/ut2004-lnxpatch3369-2.tar.bz2

=== Step 2: Moving the Steam Stuff ===
==== CD Key Part 1 ====
Before we start moving stuff around, be sure to run UT2K4 in Steam. We'll show you why in a moment...
==== Actually Moving the Game ====
Luckily, unlike the original [[Unreal Tournament]], moving UT2K4 is just a matter of moving the folder where you want it to be installed. Assuming we want ~/Games/UT2K4/ and we are in the steamapps/common folder:
mv unreal\ tournament\ 2004/ ~/Games/UT2K4/
==== CD Key Part 2 ====
One strange thing about UT2K4 on Steam is that the CD key is not made easily available like most Steam games with keys. However, we can get the CD key from
wine regedit
For 32-bit prefixes it will be located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004.
For 64-bit prefixes it will be located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004
Now, to install the CD key for the GNU/Linux version...
echo XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX > ~/Games/UT2K4/System/cdkey
And that should be it for the Steam side of things. You can now remove it from Steam.
=== Step 3: The GNU/Linux Stuff ===
==== Apply the Patch ====
Extract the patch anywhere you want. The resulting folder should contain subfolders such as "System/", "Textures/", etc. All we need to do here is move those folders over into the UT2K4 folder. It should overwrite a bunch of files, but this is okay and it indicates that you're putting it in the right place.
==== Libraries, OpenAL ====
Unfortunately I do not have a list of libraries you will need to run UT2K4, but if you run it in the terminal it should tell you what you need. If you do this or know what the libraries are, please list them here.

The one that you will definitely need to mess with is OpenAL. First, install OpenAL-Soft or whatever OpenAL package your distribution has. Then you will need to go into the System/ folder and enter this, for example:
ln -s /usr/lib64/libopenal.so openal.so
Adjust that libopenal.so location as needed. Audio should then work when you run the game.

'''Libraries for Debian Wheezy (32-bit)'''

Since the game is hard-coded to use older versions of libraries that are no longer available in Linux distributions, the following symlinks need to be used so force the game to use the latest versions of these libraries. Without these symlinks, the game cannot find the libraries that it requires.

sudo apt-get install libdirectfb-bin libstdc++5
cd /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
ln -s ./libdirect-1.2.so.9 ./libdirect-1.0.so.0
ln -s ./libfusion-1.2.so.9 ./libfusion-1.0.so.0
ln -s ./libdirect-1.2.so.9 ./libdirect-1.0.so.0
ln -s ./libdirectfb-1.2.so.9 ./libdirectfb-1.0.so.0

==== Segmentation Fault On Startup (after game was working previously) ====
./ut2004-bin
Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault]
Aborting.
Crash information will be saved to your logfile.

In some cases, if the game doesn't exit properly, you could end up with a corrupted ~/.ut2004 folder. Simply move it out of the way and try it again.
mv ~/.ut2004 ~/.ut2004.old

Pro Tip: If you're using unstable graphics drivers, be sure to back up your ~/.ut2004 folder regularly as it will very easily become corrupted by the game crashing!!

== Running the Game ==
For 32-bit systems, just run ut2004-bin in the System/ folder. For 64-bit systems, run ut2004-bin-linux-amd64.
=== Unreal Editor ===
There is no GNU/Linux version of the Unreal Editor. However, there is a native version of the UCC. To run that, run ucc-bin (or ucc-bin-linux-amd64 for 64-bit) in the System/ folder.
=== Notes ===

* All of the configuration file tweaks can be performed on Linux as well, with two small differences.
* On Linux, both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries use the same configuration file,
UT2004.ini
(on Windows, 64-bit binary has a separate configuration file).
* On Linux, changes to the settings done under
[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
section have to be done under
[SDLDrv.SDLClient]
section. Additionally, with OpenGL being the only renderer under Linux, make sure the Anisotropic Filtering and Vertical Sync settings are done under
[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
section.
== Graphical Tweaks ==
The vast majority of graphical tweaks are accomplished by editing the games .ini configuration files with a word editing program such as notepad.
=== Resolution Fix ===
Go to
<gameDir>\system
. Open
ut2003.ini
. Find these lines:

FullscreenViewportX=xxxx
FullscreenViewportY=xxxx

Change to your desired resolution.
=== FOV Fix #1 ===
Go to
<gameDir>\system
. Open
user.ini
. Find these lines:

DesiredFOV=85.000000
DefaultFOV=85.000000

Change to your desired FOV. Recommended 95 for a 16:10 resolution, and 102 for a 16:9 display.
=== FOV Fix #2 ===
Setting the FOV higher than 100 in the user.ini will cause the value to be reset to 100 next time the game is launched. To get a FOV higher than 100, type
fov value
into the console, replacing the word value with whatever you want your FOV to be.
Unreal Tournament is a first-person shooter (FPS) video game co-developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. It was published in 1999 by GT Interactive. Retrospectively, the game has also been referred to as UT99 or UT Classic to differentiate it from its numbered sequels. The game is based on the same technology that powered Unreal, but the design of UT shifted the series' focus to competitive multiplayer action, a trend at the time: id Software's Quake III Arena was released only ten days later.
== Installation ==
The process shown below is best used with the Steam version of Unreal Tournament: GOTY.

=== Easy Mode ===
[[User:Flibitijibibo|flibitijibibo]] has taken the liberty of making an unofficial installer that automates the process seen below. If you own the game, download the installer here: http://www.flibitijibibo.com/fedora/installers/flibitUT436.tar.gz

=== Hard Mode ===
==== Step 1: Downloads ====
1. The Steam version of UT GotY: http://store.steampowered.com/app/13240/

2. The Loki installer (links are at the bottom): http://www.lokigames.com/products/ut/updates.php3

==== Step 2: Moving the Steam Stuff ====
Let's assume we are in the UT folder in steamapps (typically ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam/steamapps/common/unreal\ tournament/). Let's also assume that we are installing our game in ~/Games/UT/. Here are the commands that you should enter:
mv Help/ ~/Games/UT/Help/
mv Maps/ ~/Games/UT/Maps/
mv Music/ ~/Games/UT/Music/
mv Sounds/ ~/Games/UT/Sounds/
mkdir ~/Games/UT/System/
mv System/*.u ~/Games/UT/System/
mv System/*.int ~/Games/UT/System/
mv Textures/ ~/Games/UT/Textures/
mv Web/ ~/Games/UT/Web/

At this point you should be able to delete UT from Steam without any problems.

==== Step 3: Unpacking the Loki Installer ====
What makes UT difficult to install (and likely why you're here) is that the installer requires the CDs to run. Luckily the installer can be passed some arguments to unpack it so that we can manipulate what the installer actually copies to the UT installation. Assuming the installer is in ~/Games/Installers/:
sh unreal.tournament_436-multilanguage.goty.run --noexec --target unpacked
The resulting folder "unpacked/" should contain the installer's packages!

==== Step 4: Moving the Loki Stuff ====
The first thing we do is unpack (tar xvfz) the following packages:
* Credits.tar.gz - Will unpack to a Textures/ folder
* data.tar.gz - Will unpack to a System/ folder
* NetGamesUSA.com.tar.gz - Will unpack to a NetGamesUSA.com/ folder
* OpenGL.ini.tar.gz - Will unpack to a System/ folder
* UT436-OpenGLDrv-Linux-090602.tar.gz - Will unpack to a System/ folder

Due to most of these unpacking to System/, I suggest doing these moves one at a time...

For the following sets of moves we are assuming that the Steam UT copy is in ~/Games/UT/ and this unpacked installer is in ~/Games/Installers/unpacked/. We are currently in the latter directory.
===== Non-package Moves =====
mv ut.xpm ~/Games/UT/
mv README.Loki ~/Games/UT/
mv bin/ut ~/Games/UT/
mv bin/Linux/x86/ucc ~/Games/UT/

===== Credits.tar.gz =====
mv Textures/credits.utx ~/Games/UT/Textures/
===== data.tar.gz =====
rm System/UnrealTournament.ini.PATCH
mv System/* ~/Games/UT/System/
===== NetGamesUSA.com.tar.gz =====
mv NetGamesUSA.com/ ~/Games/UT/
===== OpenGL.ini.tar.gz =====
mv System/UnrealTournament.ini ~/Games/UT/System/
===== UT436-OpenGLDrv-Linux-090602.tar.gz =====
mv System/OpenGLDrv.so ~/Games/UT/System/

== Running the Game ==
To run the game, just run "ut" in the root of the game folder.
=== Unreal Editor ===
There is no GNU/Linux version of the Unreal Editor. However, there is a native version of the UCC. To run that, run "ucc" in the root of the game folder.
=== Getting Audio with ALSA/PulseAudio ===
The game uses OSS for the audio output. Therefore, if you use ALSA/PulseAudio, the game will not have audio. To fix this, install either alsa-oss.i686 or pulseaudio-utils.i686 (or your distro's equivalent). ''It must be the 32-bit version!''

Then you can run the game with ALSA/PulseAudio's OSS wrappers. For PulseAudio, run...
padsp ./ut
For ALSA...
aoss ./ut
If you are on ALSA but are using a 64-bit OS, run...
aoss -32 ./ut
If should be noted that these wrappers result in a HUGE amount of latency (we're talking up to half a second of lag). If you are aware of any solutions to this issue, please include it here.
=== Widescreen FOV Fix ===
Go to
<gameDir>\system
. Open
user.ini
{{Give full location!}}. Find these lines:

DesiredFOV=90.000000
DefaultFOV=90.000000

Change the values to set your FOV to your preference. Recommended 100 for 16:10 resolutions and 105 for 16:9 resolutions.

=== Steam Screenshot Fix ===
By default the F12 button changes your contrast, if you're trying to take a screenshot with Steam's default key, it will undesirably change the contrast.
Go to
<gameDir>\system
. Open
user.ini
{{Give full location!}}. Find the line:

F12=BumpContrast

Remove BumpContrast to take screenshots correctly.
'''Unreal''' is a first-person shooter video game developed by Epic MegaGames and Digital Extremes and published by GT Interactive (now owned by Atari) in May 1998. It was powered by an original gameplay and computer engine that now bears the game's name, one that had been in development for over three years in founder Tim Sweeney's garage before the game was released.

Hardware diagnosis software can be used to determine whether the problems on your PC are being caused by faulty or broken hardware. There are many utilities that are designed to scan the physical components of your computer to check whether they are in good condition.

== Technique ==
How to obtain a list of hardware information:
=== Windows ===
Through
Command Prompt

[[Windows (Operating System)|Windows]] 32 bit:

C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe /t %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\dxdump.txt

Windows 64 bit:

C:\Windows\System32\dxdiag.exe /64bit /t %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\dxdump.txt

You could alternatively press the Windows key located to the left of the Alt key, + R, and type dxdiag, then Ok.

=== GNU/Linux ===
Through the
Terminal

$ lspci
$ lsusb

See also [[GNU/Linux]].

== General Troubleshooting ==
To successfully troubleshoot a problem, it helps to obey the following rules:

# Never change more than one thing at a time.
# Write down everything.

The general troubleshooting procedure is:

# Think about the problem to determine whether it results from unintentional side effects. If so, stop.
# Reboot the computer and determine if the problem is repeatable. If the problem does not occur again, stop.
# Read the game's documentation and web site to determine if it is a known problem and a solution is available. If so, try it and stop if it works.
# Search the Internet to determine if a solution from a reliable source is available. If so, try it and stop if it works.
# Examine records of the problem and classify the problem as deterministic or nondeterministic.
# Verify the computer operation assumptions are true.
# Perform stability tests on the computer.
# Perform data integrity tests on the computer's software.

Problems are classified as deterministic or non-deterministic. Deterministic problems happen the same way every time, non-deterministic problems happen differently each time. Deterministic problems are often caused by software or data corruption. Non-deterministic problems are usually caused by bad hardware.

Computer designs assume that all the following things are true. If any one of these assumptions is not true, it may be the source of the problem.

* The computer is not overheating. Fans are clean and have enough space in front and behind them to cool the electronics.
* The computer's real-time clock is set correctly.
* The computer's user is in full control of the computer, and the computer is not being given conflicting commands by other users or software from the network.
* The computer does not have unreliable or faulty peripherals attached to it.
* The computer has a reliable power supply.
* The computer's memory is perfectly reliable.
* The computer has enough extra disk storage for any virtual memory it may need.
* The computer is fast enough and has sufficient cooling for the work it is being asked to do.
* The computer's internal connectors are clean and signals pass through them reliably.
* The computer user is not actively attempting to run the computer outside specifications (over-clocking, under-volting, etcetera.)
* The computer's user is not actively trying to deceive the hardware or software.

== Stability Testing ==
Many parts of a PC work together to run a game. Crashes are often caused by problems where two or more parts interact. The first question to be asked when a crash occurs is whether the PC is stable without the game running.

=== Power Supply Unit ===
Non-deterministic problems are sometimes caused by a bad power supply unit (PSU). If the power supply is not stable, it is futile to test other parts of the system because they will yield inconsistent results. Power supplies do not indicate whether they are having problems because they generally do not include self-testing hardware. The best way to test a power supply is with a special PC power supply tester. If one is not available, swapping the PSU with another one of different make will fix the problem if the PSU is bad. Otherwise, the problem is likely elsewhere.

=== Memory ===
Memory stability testing is performed using the [http://www.memtest.org/ memtest86+ utility].

Windows 7 has a built in memory tester also, which can be found by running mdsched.exe.

=== Disks ===
Disk stability testing is performed using [http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net smartmontools]. Using the -x argument to the utility, verify the following:

* The disk is not overheating. (SSDs may not have a temperature sensor, measure their temperature some other way.)
* The disk is not reporting read or write faults in its error log.
* The disk is not reporting a pre-fail condition.

If each of those items are true, then follow the directions [http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/smartmontools/wiki/selftest_short to perform a short self-test]. Verify that the disk executes and passes this test. If not, go to the disk vendor web site support section and follow the directions to download their disk analysis software. Follow the directions to obtain a specific problem report and return the disk if it is under warranty. If the disk is not under warranty, swap the disk for a new one.

=== CPU ===
Intel CPU testing is performed using the [http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool].

AMD does not release diagnostic software for end users. Use [http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/default.php Prime95] to stress test the CPU and see if it fails. The Windows Event Log may record a machine check error code; this will provide more specific information on what caused the problem.

=== GPU ===
With the release of the 300 series drivers from NVIDIA, there have been reports of graphic cards (notably the 400 series) running extremely slowly. If you have recently started experiencing noticeable slowdown in games, it is possible that the clock speed of your video card has become locked at the default for 2D applications (202 MHz?). To check if this is the case, you can use utilities like GPU-Z, MSI Afterburner of Furmark to monitor your core clock speed. If the core clock speed never throttles up or stays low (below, for example, 500 MHz), you should consider uninstalling your NVIDIA drivers and downgrading (perform a clean install and reboot the machine between (de)installations) to an older version of the driver, preferably 296.10.
[[Image:Tronevolution1080p.jpg|thumb|Tron: Evolution at 1080p]]

== Issues and Fixes ==
=== Resolution Fix: ===
The game does not offer high resolutions such as 1920x1080 in the video options screen. Fortunately you can also change the resolution by manually modifying the config files.

The file you need is here (Windows 7 64-bit):

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Disney Interactive Studios\Tron Evolution\UnrealEngine3\GridGame\Config\

'''GridEngine.ini''' is the file you need to modify.

Search for these two settings:

'''ResX='''

'''ResY='''

They should match the current resolution the game is set at.

Then plug in the values you want there, e.g.

ResX=1920

ResY=1080

Unfortunately, 1920x1200 does not seem to work, only 1920x1080, so those with 16:10 monitors may have to live with slight letterboxing. Higher values have not been tested. Note that going into the game's options screen and changing other values may result in the game resetting this change.

== Improvements ==
=== Skip Introductions, Cutscenes and Videos ===

This can be done by modifying one of the config files located here (Windows 7 64-bit):

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Disney Interactive Studios\Tron Evolution\UnrealEngine3\GridGame\Config\

In '''GridEngine.ini''', just put a semi-colon ''';''' before each movie that you want to skip:

<nowiki>;</nowiki>'''StartupMovies=Unreal'''

<nowiki>;</nowiki>'''StartupMovies=GamestarLogo'''

<nowiki>;</nowiki>'''StartupMovies=PropagandaLogo'''

<nowiki>;</nowiki>'''StartupMovies=DisneyLogo'''

<nowiki>;</nowiki>'''StartupMovies=Sc1_01_01'''

Those are all the movies that occur before the title screen.
By default, Trine's vsync setting will run the game at 24Hz when enabled, rather than the actual refresh rate of the display. To achieve a higher vsync rate using the Steam version of the game, edit the configuration file found here:
<your steam install folder>\steamapps\common\trine\config\options.txt
adding the following line with the Display section:
refresh_rate_override = <your refresh rate, e.g. 60 for 60Hz>
and then make the file read-only. If you do not change the file to be read-only, your settings will be overwritten when Trine launches. Note that making this file read-only will prevent any other setting changes from working, so you should perform this tweak after configuring everything else.

== Issues and Fixes ==

=== Local Co-op cannot detect multiple keyboards and mice or pairs them incorrectly ===

First, open the Launcher, go to the advanced menu, and make sure that you have "enable multiple mice and keyboards" checked. This is unchecked by default.

If that does not fix the problem, go to your Trine folder. Open the config folder, and then open options.txt. In that file, you should find something like this:

player1_keyboard_ID = 0
player1_mouse_ID = 0
player2_keyboard_ID = 1
player2_mouse_ID = 1
player3_keyboard_ID = 2
player3_mouse_ID = 2

You can now manually assign mice and keyboards to the correct players by changing the ID numbers. You may have to open and close the game a few times, testing the controls each time, to determine which numbers refer to which mice and keyboards. Be aware that the ID numbers may not perfectly match up as 0's for player 1 and 1's for player 2, etc, as in this example. You may want, for instance, player 1 to have keyboard 2 and mouse 0, depending on what numbers your computer has assigned to which devices.
== Issues and Fixes ==
=== No Cursor In EULA And Menu Buttons Launch Issues ===
From the game launcher, select the Small Gear button that opens the Options menu at the top and select the 'Troubleshooting and Diagnostics' button. Hit the "Validate / Repair" Button on the bottom left.

It takes a few minutes to validate the files and then (if you are experiencing this issue) re-download them.

If this does not fix the issue, use the diagnostic and support utility to send Hi-Rez studios the log files from your Tribes: Ascend patcher. [http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/284/~/why-can't-i-see-my-mouse-cursor-or-agree-to-the-eula-when-i-launch-tribes More information]

=== Patcher Client Error "Decompression Timed Out" ===
After downloading the game or updates via the Hi-Rez Studio's patcher, it may freeze or move excruciatingly slowly during the decompression stage, eventually resulting in the error message "Decompression Timed Out". This is often due to an anti-virus program attempting to scan the files while they are being decompressed. Disabling your virus scanner may solve this issue.

If disabling your anti-virus does not solve this issue, the uncompressed files can be downloaded directly by opening up the options menu, selecting the "Troubleshooting and Diagnostics" button and hitting the "Validate/Repair" button.

=== Error Message:"Failed to start the Hi-Rez Studios Authenticate And Update Service" ===
Open Hi Rez Diagnostics and Support from the Start menu as an administrator, click "Restart Service". If that fails, delete the "C:\ProgramData\Hi-Rez Studios" folder and reinstall.

=== Error Message:"Cannot find the Hi-Rez installation" (Steam) ===
0) Uninstall non-Steam T:A (you may want to delete manually all remaining files ; killing a Hirez-related Windows service will be necessary. Windows will tell you)

1) Go to \Steam\SteamApps\common\tribes\Binaries\Redist

2) Launch InstallHirezService.exe

2b) (If it displays something about updating, agree and launch it again.)

3) If it displays something about uninstalling something, agree.

4) Launch Tribes Ascend from your Steam library.

5) Prerequisites install properly, game starts.
WARNING: There have been instances of Visual C++/.NET framework libraries being somehow affected by this.<ref>http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=31566934&postcount=2</ref>

=== Stuttering ===
Disable PhysX (switch it to CPU) in the Nvidia control panel.<ref>http://forum.hirezstudios.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=314&t=63953&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20</ref>

=== Chat Issues ===
As of the game's release, players will often times be unable to send a chat message. While you can bring up the chat box and type the message, pressing enter will sometimes do nothing. This can be fixed by restarting the game.

=== Physics Glitches ===
Tribes: Ascend features a number of physics issues that will sometimes propel the player at high speeds when they hit certain objects at high speeds. One example of this is the flag stand on Raindance, which can throw the player into the air, sometimes hitting the invisible ceiling. This has been an issue since at least beta; likely alpha as well.

=== Extreme Stuttering even in the UI ===
If you have the DirectX SDK installed (usually only developers), ensure that the 32-bit DirectX Control Panel (i.e. the DirectX Control Panel without "64-bit" in the title) is set to the Retail Version of DirectX 9. Find the DirectX Control Panel in the Start Menu, under Programs. On Vista or Windows 7, just type "DirectX" into the search.

== Improvements ==
User c0mad0r has a detailed explanation for Graphics Configuration using the tribes.ini file[http://blackrabbit2999.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/tribes-ascend-tribesini-graphics.html], to get the most out of the Unreal engine. This guide has detailed explanations, but the suggested settings generally favor performance over visual effects.

=== [[Borderless Fullscreen Windowed]] ===
The game supports fullscreen windowed mode natively. From the main menu, choose:

Settings > Video > Screen Type > Borderless

=== [[Resolution]] ===
Native Vert- support. You can force your resolution, if not available in the game menu, by editing tribes.ini at C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Tribes Ascend\TribesGame\Config, i.e. 1680x1050 set :

ResX=1680
ResY=1050

=== [[Field Of View]] ===
The game supports changing the [[Field Of View (FOV) Fixes|field of view]] from within the game. The FOV can be changed from Settings > Gameplay > FOV. Possible values are between 60 and 120.
Screenshots below demonstrate the change these values make
The [Web site path] is different depending if you play the website version or the local version, it will probably be "localhost" for your harddrive version.

Then just copy it to some other location and if your progress is lost, copy it back to where it originally came from.
