Essential improvements
Patches
- Patch 1.1 - official patch for a game.
- Patch Project 1.2.5 (mirror, mirror of zip version) - fan patch with bugfixes. The zip version is recommended for the GOG.com release, as the installer version does not recognize the installation. To make use of GOG's Direct3D wrapper alongside 1.2.5, rename the file
d3d8.dll
from the 1.2.5 patch package to dinput.dll
to prevent a filename conflict.
Correct speed of nebula movement effect
Install a DirectX wrapper
- Corrects unnatural looking fast nebula movement and potentially other graphical glitches.
- Only tested on retail release, may not be applicable to GOG release.
- May "undo" some portions of the unofficial 1.2.5 patch, as it replaces the custom
d3d8.dll
installed by 1.2.5.
Use a DirectX wrapper[1]

- Download the latest version of d3d8to9.
- Rename the existing
d3d8.dll in <path-to-game> to be able to undo this change if necessary.
- Paste the downloaded
d3d8.dll into <path-to-game> .
- Run the game.

Shipyard infinite sound loop
If a ship is decommissioned at a shipyard, a bug often occurs that causes the decomissioning sound to endlessly loop. The only way to end it is to decomission or repair another ship at the same shipyard. The bug was fixed in the most recent versions of the Fleet Operations mod.
