Field of view (FOV)

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Custom vertical FOV[citation needed]
  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Open UserOptions.ini.
  3. Set VerticalFOV= to the value you want.
Increase vehicle FOV[citation needed]
  1. Download PS2FOV from WSGF.org
  2. Run it at the same time as Planetside 2
  3. Horizontal FOV will be unlocked and adjusted automatically for any resolution/FOV and you can manually set your required horizontal FOV for vehicles between 80° and 150°.

Notes

PS2FOV fixes the vertical FOV for vehicles, useful for multi-monitor resolutions.

Logitech 3D Pro POV pad

If you only use the ingame key bindings, the pad will just stop working after a few seconds. In order to use the POV pad of the joystick for the cockpit view, follow these steps[3]

Use the Logitech profiler[citation needed]
  1. In the Logitech profiler, set up a new profile for PlanetSide 2 (use the LaunchPad.exe - not PlanetSide2.exe)
  2. Under Options -> Global Profiler Settings, select "Apply persistent profile" and choose your Planetside2 profile in the combo box
  3. For your POV pad, create a new assignment (click POV in the overview, then "Select Assignment" -> "New POV Assignment")
  4. Use the Edit button to record 4 different keystrokes (in my case I created 4 keystroke assignments for the 4 arrow keys)
  5. Assign those keystrokes to the POV pad directions "N", "W", "E" and "S"
  6. Check "FPS Style Movement" (otherwise you can only look into one direction instead of smooth movements)
  7. Make sure your new POV assignment is selected
  8. Run PlanetSide 2
  9. Set up the cockpit view keys in Planetside 2 to the recorded keystrokes

Notes

Input options only configurable after entering a server.

Issues unresolved

All ground and units disappear

Often during morning and midday, all foreground objects disappear. This includes the units, world and building. Icons remain and the map etc. stays available. This bug fixes itself after about 30 seconds.

Issues fixed

Cannot install game (Steam)

Fixing error: "An Error occured while installing Planetside 2 (No Subscription)"[citation needed]
  1. Exit Steam (right click tray icon > Exit).
  2. Wait for Steam to fully close any open windows and dialogues.
  3. Start Steam.
  4. Install PlanetSide 2 from its Steam page.

Planetside2.exe has stopped working

Fixing error: "Planetside2.exe has stopped working (Windows 32-bit)"[citation needed]
  1. Open Command Prompt (cmd.exe) as an administrator.
  2. In the console, type "bcdedit /set increaseuserva 3072" and press Enter.
  3. Run Planetside 2 and see if it has worked.
  4. If it doesn't work and you'd like to revert the changes go back to the console and type "bcdedit /deletevalue increaseuserva" and press Enter.
Fixing error: PlanetSide2.exe has stopped working (Windows 8)[citation needed]
  1. Install the latest DirectX End-User Runtimes, then restart the PlanetSide 2 Launcher. If you still get the same error, do the following:
  2. Go to %WINDIR%\WinSxS
  3. Search for dinput8.dll
  4. Copy the file you find (do not move it).
  5. Go to the installation folder.
  6. Paste the copy of dinput8.dll into the PlanetSide 2 Folder that you just opened
  7. Restart the PlanetSide 2 Launcher
Fixing error: "Planetside2.exe has stopped working" (Steam)[citation needed]
  1. In Steam go to View->Settings
  2. In the IN-GAME tab activate "Enable Steam Community In-Game"
  3. Right-click Planetside 2 and select Properties then ensure "Enable Steam Community In-Game" is checked here too.
  4. Relaunch Planetside 2 from Steam.

Low frame rate

Fixing Low Frame Rate (FPS)[citation needed]

During the alpha stage, Planetside 2 featured special particle effects powered by PhysX.[4] These effects were removed prior to the official launch, but an option to disable PhysX was not available in the settings menu. The following fix forces PhysX off. This won't solve having a low-end machine, but will improve frame rate by 20% to 40% in most cases.[5]

  1. Close Planetside 2.
  2. Go to <path-to-game>.
  3. Open UserOptions.ini
  4. Add GpuPhysics=0 to the section [Rendering] on a new line
  5. Save + Close
  6. Launch Planetside 2
Fixing Low Frame Rate (FPS) Second method[citation needed]

Theres a way to tweak render limits to even lower sizes than 500. If you play as infantry 300 is still playable and is a lot faster.

  1. Close Planetside 2.
  2. Go to <path-to-game>.
  3. Open UserOptions.ini
  4. Change RenderDistance=500 to RenderDistance=300
  5. Save + Close
  6. Launch Planetside 2
  7. Do not change Render distance ingame options, because that will reset to minimum value of 500.

Game download starts over after ProSiebenSat.1 account migration

Edit LaunchPad.ini[6]
  1. Migrate your account from ProSiebenSat.1 to a Station Account at PlanetSide 2 EU if you have not already done so.
  2. Go to <path-to-game>.
  3. Open LaunchPad.ini.
  4. Delete the environment=psg line.
  5. Save your changes and close the file.
