Hey Andy, Had a fair amount to ask you about etc so thought I'd post it here before I forget.
- I swapped "Hackable" in the Video Settings template for a wrench icon which is now visible on all pages that use the template. Could you tell me what you think of it - I was trying to make it so what when you hover over it it says "Hackable", but that is only possible if you have it linking to the image page, which is undesirable.
- I have two links I tried to post on Re-Volt which I have tested as safe and pretty integral to parts of the article, but cannot post due to the Wiki's in-built spam filter (these being z8.invisionfree.com/RRR_Racing_Forum/index.php? and z3.invisionfree.com/Our_ReVolt_Pub/index.php?showtopic=1357). Is it possible to override this?
- I found an issue some users are experiencing to add to the Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven page, but didn't know whether to post it or not, as it seems the only solution is to make use of a No-CD crack (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1397631) - could you clarify whether I should post it or not?
Thanks, Tom
1. Love the new icon - it's a perfect fit. What I would like is to have a single column (no 'Hackable' column) and for each to have a choice of either Tick-native Hack-hackable and Cross-no. When I have time I will work on this (and also I'm sure we can work the alt hover text in) but I'm pretty busy until Wednesday/Thursday with work stuff, or if you can get your guy to tweak it, it would be amazing :).
2. I'll talk to JRWR about the spam filter, I'm also having problems. You can put the references and links in as free-text for the moment as I have done.
3. I'm interested in starting a dialogue on how to approach No-CD cracks. I am also interested in specific DRM cracks like GFWL. The biggest concern is legal threats and takedowns. I'll post up on the general Forum about this. Edit: posted here Thread:PCGamingWiki:Forum/DRM and GFWL removal information
1. So would the single column have space for two ticks? One for whether its native and one for whether its hackable? Or are we thinking merging the two columns because if its hackable then its available for that game? 2. Ok thanks 3. Commented
1. Yes just 1 column, 1 tick/cross/hackicon for each item - we only need to know if AA is possible or not. Will make it much easier to scan, and additional info can go in the notes, and the notes could link to the relevant in-page hack.
Had a look myself, but looks like its more than the one template that needs editing. I can ask Jan to take a look.
Thanks that would be amazing.
I've figured out how to use the whitelist MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist to add more items in. Your forum links should work now, and any future whitelist stuff just ask me.
Awesome, thanks :)
Hey Andy,
If you aren't already aware of this site it's a good source for information on which Steam games carry what DRM when it comes to software like TAGES, etc.
http://steamdrm.flibitijibibo.com/the-big-drm-list/
Pretty much just lists the DRM of every steam game.
Regards,
David
Thanks I am aware of this list, very comprehensive but not user-editable. I've spoken to the owner, and I'll be referring to it closely when I'm designing the new availability/DRM table.
http://localhostr.com/file/AHGofgP/retail.psd
Have fun :P
Thanks so much :).
Hey Andy, I have been working on a mockup table to display the availability of each game as we discussed and came up with this: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/User:Hungry_eyes/Sandbox
Basically, the services are grouped by the type of DRM they offer, with the icons representing each service, and linking to the respective store page for the game. The Blue disc is the retail version. I think I pretty much included all the major digital distribution services - let me know what you think.
Hey Andy,
Just wondering if we plan to include the Video Settings template as part of the Sample article layout - I think it's a beneficial addition especially for people considering purchasing the game.
Regards, David
Feel free to use it at the moment.
Before putting it as a sample article - I would like to work on it slightly more. I am thinking of removing the 'Hackable' column and replacing it with a new hacking icon - this would make things simpler on the eye as you'd only need to see 1 column.
Also open to any suggestions for 'hacking' icon, preferably something that fits in (or we can even replace the current icon set).
Maybe a crossed set of tools e.g. a hammer and a screwdriver to symbolise tinkering? I can't see much else being 'clear' enough as an effective icon.
I added a wrench icon - check it out and tell me what you think.
Hello Andytizer!
Last time you replied to a news on CDAction site, you mentioned something about contacting you here if willing to work on translating this wiki to Polish.
So, here I am.
Some info on me. - I am not 18+ years old - I am not someone with a confirmation of how fluidly I can speak in English in hand. That said, I can and am doing mistakes every now and then, but I am here to learn English (every attempt to use English makes us better in that language) while helping Polish folks who can't understand English too well. - I won't be able to work on this wiki every day all day. Actually, I am willing to translate something in my free time, but I will please you to forgive me if I don't appear on the wiki for long time (for example, a week or two) - probably something independent of me happened.
Thanks very much for your response :). Your English looks perfect, so I'm happy to have you around and make translations.
I still need to figure out exactly how to start the translation project on the technical side. I did not plan to support any other languages other than English, but I can see that there is a high demand in countries like Poland for a wiki like this.
You could start with a page like http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2 and then create the page http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2/pl as a Polish sub page.
Later we can figure out how to relate the articles together.
Do you mean that you did not use an usual code of Wikipedia? There always is kind of language bar on the left. I am not a professional website designer like you and I know nothing about coding websites, but I could swear this wiki looks almost the same as Wikipedia or other wikis! :)
OK, I will start with The Witcher 2 as soon as possible.
Thank you very much for your support, and for taking the time to translate. There is some special settings required to run translations- I am currently investigating. If you need any help, I am usually online in the webchat (IRC) when I am editing.
I did just a little bit of translation for test.
Tell me if it's ok.
I'm done for today, tomorrow I will do the rest of that page.
I hope it will turn out to be a well done work when I finish.
Thanks for letting me try!
Also, if you consider it anything good, I threw 1$ yesterday I think :)
Thanks for the huge amount of support - the page looks great at the moment.
Still looking into translation on the coding side, should find out soon.
Hey Andy, Was wondering if the key for Warlock: Master of the Arcane is still available? Would be nice to try it out and get an article up.
Hey Andy, just wanted to let you know that the next week for me is finals week. I'm gonna be kinda busy throughout the week. I won't have much if any time to work on new articles, so new work on those gamersgate articles will have to be postponed a week. I should have time after this week to work on them again.
Just wanted to keep you in the loop.
No problem, as it's just a week or so, just hang onto the account :). Good luck in your exams!
Hey Andy,
Thanks for putting it up on the forums; I'm gonna try and find some time to continue to work on the article, adding what people were saying in that forum thread too. Sorry I haven't been too active the last few days and I won't be for a few weeks because of how close my exams are getting, but I'll try and be on from time to time to keep helping out and editing where possible. Exams finish in mid-June so I'll be back to normal then.
David
Done!

This appears to be a hangover from Extension: Approved Revs - which we aren't using now? It's not appearing in Special:Version but clicking the link [1] shows that there is something there: http://i.imgur.com/ceDgO.png
If you read the chat log, its always been there (its there when you print the page, its a permalink) vvv (guy who patched the error) told me this himself, so I tend to beleave him, something is wrong with our CSS
Was my mistake in Template:NotableReleases, I'm so stupid!
The "More articles at PCGamingWiki..." on the front page is formatted kinda weird. I don't think it looked exactly like that since the upgrade.
It doesn't appear as weird on other pages, only the homepage. Newmansan 15:17, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks I have had a look at this, it looks like some kind of conflict with approved revisions which we stopped using recently as we switched to the new CAPTCHA. Will speak to JRWR about this.
The update is complete, Total downtime per Pingdom is 8 minutes

Hi, Just a quick one. Do we have a policy on whether we solely use American English or if it's authors discretion? Because as I am British I feel I consciously have to type words in American English, and I'm pretty sure there are spellings I take for granted which are not present in American English which I would type unaware.
As a Brit myself, I sympathise. However in terms of search enginge optimisation and consistency (and the fact that 50% of the readership is from North America) I think it's best to stick to US English for the writing on the article pages.
There should be no policy. Write in your own language. The variations between British English and US English spellings will not affect peoples searches. Google automatically includes all English locales in searches anyway. The differences are pretty minor anyway.
The biggest issue is correct spelling and grammar which will affect those whose first language is not English.
I agree with Thunderbolt, and it is true that Google treats each English language variant equally, and we should write in a style that we are most comfortable with.
However for the sake of consistency of the URLs, I think it's best to use US English for page titles, for example, http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Color_Fixes_For_Older_Games
Hi,
I thought I'd run this by you rather than just going ahead and doing it because it's a bit different from what's currently on the wiki in style. Basically having seen the FOV article I think an anti aliasing article would be of benefit to this wiki. I don't mind writing it, and the essence would be explaining the difference between the different types of anti aliasing (e.g. MSAA, CSAA, etc.). Other wikis such as wikipedia have this information spread over 7 or 8 different articles and a large proportion of this information is non-game related. It could also include a section for forcing the enabling of AA in some games, but primarily it could be an easy way for those less tech-literate to find out what the different types actually are.
What do you think?
There are a couple of articles which cover this. However, it would be great to consolidate them: Improve_Graphical_Sharpness_Filtering Graphics_Processing_Unit_(GPU)#Graphics_Settings
You have my blessing to create a new article called Anti-aliasing. If you would like to delete content or pages, it may be best to create your new article and I'll judge whether we should delete pages with duplicate information.
Thanks for your support of the wiki!
Hi,
Little bit confused as to what happened to my addition to the Deus Ex article expanding on the mods list. In the page history I can't see it being reverted or anything but the changes I made are no longer visible. Did I do something wrong?
Regards,
1R0N_W00K13
I can see that your edits are still in the latest version of the page.
It may have something to do with caching? Try refreshing your cache on the browser. Also make sure to log in and refresh, as the web server has very aggressive web caching, which is disabled for logged in users.
AWESOME IS AWESOME
JRWR said you might have some experience in CSS. There's a spacing issue in the new forum system where the thread title will hover above the actual thread. When all threads are collapsed and re-expanded, the spacing will be correct.
If this is way beyond your purview, I totally understand.
Edit: It can easily be seen here: http://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/PCGamingWiki:Forums
