Performance Improvements
Disable Aero Theme
Disabling the Windows Aero theme may help with performance on Windows Vista/7. To do this automatically when running the game, open the game executable "Properties" dialog, navigate to the "Compatibility" tab and tick "Disable desktop composition".
Sometimes if Windows detects that a program is maxing out computer resources then windows will offer to temporarily disable the Aero theme to free up resources.
